i've got a 29 with about 35lbs of rock, and i don't want to remove any rockwork, but i've got to get these two fish out. i've even tried the fishing hook method and still no luck

Dpending how big the damsels are, you could borrow my grouper!

Eell? He has never had a damsel.

Anyway, I have heard of taking a 20 oz coke bottle and cutting the top off. Then you would invert the top and cut a hole just big enough around the neck for the fish. Then tape, glue, epoxy the two pieces together. Bait the bottom of the bottle and you are ready to go.

at this point, if it didn't kill my corals i'd introduce some electricity to zap em. thanks rob, i'll try that this afternoon

OK tomarrow is feeding day. What do you want me to do. Feed or not to feed, that is the question.

Been reading this thread. I've seen a mason jar-type-thing on e-bay that sounds similar to Rob's suggestion. Did it work?

still no dice. i don't have a lot of room to mess with in this 29, so a 24 oz bottle is about as big as i can go. i've got one last ditch idea i'm gonna try involving a cleaning magnet and small acrylic box

I guess if you're really brave you could shock 'em. I'd definately be interested in that one! I wouldn't do it to my own without a lot of research though. I would have already emptied the tank, but I'm low on patience.

your not a very good fisherman are you did you try the net trick

tang fever
10/06/2005, 04:46 PM
Don't do it man! I called AC in Nashville and they think it's a real bad idea to zap them because you'll get everything living in your tank. Any developed cope's and possibly your developed nitrogenous cycling bacteria could be destroyed. He and I truly think that you should either give the coke bottle some time, try a commercially marketed minnow trap, or just pull your rock out and use Mr. Phillips' idea.

The way my fishing has been going lately, I could catch those "little" fish for him. I've had lots of practice!

haha,
like real life, when i try the fishhook method, they eat the bait and leave the hook. removing the rockwork is the absolute, t-totally last ditch plan. i tried 3 versions of the coke bottle trick, so i fear it may be a bunch of buckets and rock removal this weekend for me

Get a "bait rig" from sporting goods store. It is a rigged set-up with a very small treble hook. Put a small peice of shrimp on one hook & drop in. Very easy to catch any fish with it. I removed 5 fish in about 5 minutes.

now your talking put the net in for a couple of hours let them get familar with it as a piece that belongs in there they will come out to investigate when they do net them just takes time they have got to fell comfortable with that net being in there

jeff phillips
