I am getting a couple of tanks from Below Sea Level. Here is what I plan to do with them.

Question: Where are you planning on putting this and does the wife know?
Follow-up: Do you carry them around in a wheelbarrow or do you just have a reinforced jock strap?

Rendos
09/15/2005, 02:17 PM
The wife knows...they are goin in my office with the clownfish tank...it will be plumbed into this system somehow also so that I can use the chiller on both systems.

They are in the freezer where she keeps them... but on occasion I like to see if they still work.

I would suggest that before anyone starts raising stuff they should make sure they have a market for it. In other words start real small and see where it takes you.

Thanks Dave...I have done this before. I can sell on eBay if I have too much. Or set up my website again.

I had pretty good luck there before. Then I moved and never set it back up again.

Well, with everything else that is going on, I haven't had much time to work on my prop tanks, but here are a couple of pictures to keep the thread alive. I have the tanks somewhat cleaned up, and have made the overflow boxes.
20 gallon long sump.

33 gallon prop tanks...

All tanks in my garage...
http://fishman.smugmug.com/photos/38570664-L.jpg

I hope to get started on the stand/rack for this setup this weekend. It will all be plumbed together with my existing clownfish system...40 gallon cube.

how do you attach acrylic to glass?

oh, and aren't you supposed to have clown fish in a clownfish tank...

I speak from experience when I say that Silicone is a poor choice to stick acrylic and glass. I would think that Marine Goop would work better.

Rendos
10/04/2005, 07:43 AM
I silicone my acrylic overflows in glass tanks. I think it depends on how much pressure would be in the equation. In the case of an overflow...not much, if any, pressure is involved.

P.S. The clowns were hiding in their anemone in the picture...just as they do all day, everyday.

willember
10/04/2005, 11:02 AM
The reason I ask is that I would like to section off areas in my sump, which is just a glass aquarium. If I bought plexiglass at Home Depot/Lowes, what would you recomend I use to secure the partitions?

wjhuie
10/04/2005, 02:41 PM
I used silicone to attach the dividers in my sump and it worked great, it has been in use for almost two years. My sump is made out of a 37g eclipse its the same dimensions as a 20 long just a lot taller. it seems like there is a decent amount of pressure on them and it has done fine

willember
10/04/2005, 02:47 PM
Is the eclipse glass? We had a 12G eclipse and it was, but I know some of them are acrylic.

I got some work done on my stand this weekend. I got it mostly done, but still have to change the back out to s different material, and add a bottom. This stand is going in my house and my wife will not allow it to look like anything less than the other aquarium stands...soooo...Here are a couple of pictures.

ah, so this is an open stand? I kept waiting for the doors.

Rendos
10/21/2005, 08:16 AM
Yes...it is an open stand for the time being. If the wife gets too upset, I may have to add doors, but for ease of maintenance, I don't want to put doors on.

I made some changes to my skimmer over the weekend too.
Here it is when I first made it.
http://fishman.smugmug.com/photos/13735830-L.jpg

I reduced the height of the body, but added length the the neck. I added a quick disconnect for the collection cup, and I added a gate valve modification. It is skimming much better now (not that it was bad before) plus I love the 1/4 turn for the collection cup versus unscrewing 8 nylon screws on the flange for cleaning.
Here it is now...

hey Richard -- your prop tank project is really coming along, it's looking good!!! your overflows look VERY familar...:)

i've heard mention of "american dj powerstrip" in numerous forums but i don't really understand their purpose.... what do they do and what are their advantages????

Rendos
10/26/2005, 07:59 AM
They are fancy powerstrips. You plug in your electrical stuff on the back side which has outlets. On the front are corresponding switches that are lighted so turning things on and off in a hurry is easy. You just label the switch on the front as to what is plugged into it.
They look like this on the front...

Walker - the only thing keeping me from your house and taking pictures is time. I just don't have much of it. As soon as I get a chance, I will be glad to come over and take a bunch.

I ordered my star board from

I only ordered enough for my tanks. Sorry. 18"X36" was $27 each.

You do know using the wrong power strips can kill everything in your tank, right?

Finished. Sort of. I still need to make a few adjustments, but the tanks are full of water and pump is running. I will try to finish up tonight and tomorrow and start adding salt.

Once I get the salinity correct, then I will let open the valve between the two systems...making them one. I can then move the chiller under the prop tanks on the left side under the stand, and clean up some electrical stuff that needs to be moved.

When you come be sure to see me. I have a couple of MI Acros that were on some rock that was placed in the snail system when the tank went. I forgot about 'em until last night and removed them. They are brownies now but were a medium purple with green polyps. You can still see a slight purple cast to 'em as well as the green polyps but they are yours when you come by. Don't get too excited as they are small frags from accidental fragging incidents but have fully encrusted. I'll show you the parent as well.

There is no "ordering" livestock per say. There is only requesting.

Did you get the guys to put you on the list?

I know we have had Sixlines since you looked at the Fourline.
I think we've had Copperbands as well.

Wil(Yellow Assessor,Sunburst Anthias) and Lisa(Lime Stripe Goby,Blue Assessor, and seems like ther was something else) have fish that will be ready for pick-up should they read this(and I know they will.)

To the best of my knowledge its been a couple of weeks since he wrote them down. At least a week before he quit. Is everyone responsable for calling people in the request book, or just the ones that write in the request for that particular customer?

They call the people when something is in. They usually call the people that they took the requests from. It's not perfect which is one of the reasons I take no money prior to getting the animal and no one is obliged to take anything ordered. I'll hold it through Friday. If I don't hear from you ,I'll release it. If I do I'll hold it till you arrive. I know you looked at a Fourline Wrasse and didn't want it due to aggressiveness. It attains the same size as a Sixline and they each exhibit the same type of behavior. You might consider a Pink Streaked wrasse (Pseudocheilinops ataenia .) It looks similar, stays smaller, same type of eating behavior, not aggressive, and is sexually dichromatic.

As to the show tank,I've been telling everyone you broke it out of spite.

I vaguely remember something about a "prop system" in the title.

How many PMs have you gotten with members wanting your frags before you even get started??

With all the views, obviously everyone is exited!

Well, I thought I was going to add a calcium reactor to this system, but instead I got a medical dosing pump from eBay really cheap, and thought I would give that method a try. So far...it has been really easy to set up, and even lets you know just how much you have dosed. Here are a couple of pictures. I am using it with Kent Marine Tech CB parts A & B.

Hey Richard,
I love the idea of automating the Kent A/B. What about the need to shake the part B?

When I have tried to drip these or automate, there has been problem over the long term of the B part separating into sediment and losing potency if not shaken well before each dose.
Some of the chunks get pretty big and I was afraid would plug the line and throw the dosing off balance.

Please keep us posted how this does for you. I would love to get away from dosing every day.

Cathy - I assume I will need to shake up the Part B. I planned on stopping the doser (ruun/hold switch is great) and shaking up the part B...waiting until everything settled out and then starting the doser back.

Ramiro - yes, they are the same thing used in hospitals to drip medicine into a patient's IV.

My new toy...I got tired of manually turning lights and fans on and off...and I like my ReefKeeper on my 90 gallon so much that I bought another one for the prop tanks.
Here is a shot of the whole system. (Reefkeeper on left side...doser on right side)

drowzee - I will take some individual coral shots tonight and post them. All the big corals are a friend's corals I am babysitting while he moves into his new house. They will all be gone this weekend.

Walker - $219 from Digital Aquatics.

Dave - the lights are on...the room lights, that is.

He's not that curious. I try to get him to take an interest in the tanks, but he could care less.
