I am just setting up a fuge and I'm looking for about 100lbs of southdown, or reef sand. Does anyone have any or know a good place to buy it. I also heard of people using regular beach sand, has anyone used it and had any success?

I also will need cheato and a little live sand in the near future so if anyone has some please let me know.

Thanks Mike

I will look into it if there are enough people that want it. I assume a pallet is at least 50 bags and I only need about 2.

I would be interested in 2 bags of south down or bomix sand. Both are excellent for reefs, but bomix sand is very white.

BTW how do I go about changing my location.....I am no longer in Montreal, but just down the road in Punta Gorda.

Go to and click the My RC tab at the top of the page, then click edit profile. Welcome to FL :D

Regarding beach sand....

Don't know if it's legal to remove sand from beaches.

Don't know if it's calcium based sand.

Don't know the risk you're running with red tide in the area.

I don't know much;) .

thanks for the Welcome to Florida....however I am a native of this great state, and my roots go back some 140 years.

As for tanking sand from the beach, my guess it is silica sand, somthing I would not consider in my tanks.

I know many many corals that are doing better than great in silica sand. :D :D
