How many here are right around Toledo/sylvania? I'm starting a tank after hanging around with some reef "friends" (told them I'd save the reciepes and thank them later) from mansfield and was wondering what kind of local intrest there was

I have seen it too. I am very close to psycho.

We have a new house back in my neighborhood with a tank. Maybe we can start a Sylvania club.

Cool, drive by every day. A friend of mine grew up at the grey farm house on Centennial across the street.

We are in Woodstream West, Sylvania Metamora and Mitchaw.

Sylvania club would be sweet, less driving. My other reefers are in mansfield

AnnArborBuck is also in sylvania, then I know of two other tanks in my subdivision. Maybe I could convince the one, the other, I need to meet yet.

newer. We have new homes going up in the back. We have been here 3 years and are in plat 4. Plats 1 & 2 are about 5 years old.

Funny, we were looking seriously in Deerpointe before we bought here.

Sylvania club would be cool, I have bits and pieces that hopefully in the next week will be assembled into something that will resemble a tank (being erickson's glass doesn't break my tank) I've been hiting the forums looking for live rock

Mine is 3 years old, but I have been really slow adding corals due to a number of mistakes and problems. It is starting to resemble a reef though.

what size are you throwing together?

20H unless I can get a deal on something bigger, the 20 is a short test to make sure i can at least grow something.. if i can then a 90 i most likely on its way.

bigger is easier, your parameters stay better. My first tank, in HS was a 29 gallon fo tank. I'd go for hardy stuff in a 20, to allow for errors. do you have any experience at all? The 20 may be a good starter, but keep a very close eye on all your parameters.

I had it for about a year or so. It fluctuated a lot. When I started again, I was thinking about the 54 corner, but then opted for the 92 corner. I am so glad that I did. It just requires a bit bigger water changes.

no exp with reef tanks, but my mansfield buddy got me hooked and he has had tanks for a long time so he's taught me a lot and showed me what hes done wrong in the past . I will agree the 20 wil be tricky and i'd love something around 100 but live rock for the 20 is alot more affordable then LR on a 100. I figure i'll just have to watch the 20, it will have a 10g sump on it though might help a little

You are lucky to have guidance, I was on my own... thus many oopses. It is looking decent now, but have to figure out the darn noise problem in my sump!

i don't know if i would have attempted it without knowing him. He keeps telling me to find someone breaking down a tank but i keep just missing the local ones for sale. Do you mainly do fish only?

I am trying the reef. I have some shrooms, clams, zoas, birdsnest & hammer. What are you planning, fish only or reef?

kstuart

reef, The corals intrest me more then the fish. Do you have a sand bed or bare bottom?

jenghes

I have sand. I got TBSW live rock and sand, SSB of about 2-3". They were very nice, but due to some of my mistakes and constantly having to tear down my system to get the Mantis shrimps out, I have lost most of the goodies that came on the rock. Do you plan on BB or sand?

kstuart
08/28/2005, 12:28 AM
i have one friend with bb and the other has sand but hewill do bb on the next tank. I'm going with sand though because i figure the 20 will be a short lived tank and hopefully upgraded soon and hopefully the sand will help regulate it a bit

jenghes

Personally, I like the look of sand better than bb. It all depends on what you want to do though. I do not plan on any major hard stuff, so I am happy with pretty much what I have.

what type of lighting do you have?

Hey, just found this thread. I haven't been on RC since about April due to my Job and time constraints. I know of a couple of people in sylvania that have reeftanks. I live on Winding Way which is off of Erie across from Highland Meadows Golf Club.

If anybody needs any xenia, colt, finger leather let me know, I have some I need to get rid of.
