August 1, 2005 GRMAS Meeting Minutes
·Next meeting is scheduled for Wednesday September 7, 2005. This has been changed from the normal Monday meeting due to the Labor Day holiday. We will still meet from 7-9 at the Family Fare Community Room.
·Voting on the auctions at the end of the monthly general meetings was performed, the vote was unanimous to have auctions at the end of EVERY meeting.
·Rjwilson37’s (Robert’s) tank will be featured as the Tank Of The Month at ultimatereef.net this month, please check it out. Congratulations Robert!!!
·The 5th officer position, the trustee/ correspondence secretary position still needs to be filled. Scott Yonkers has volunteered for this position but if someone else is interested in the position please let us know. The responsibilities for this position include getting leads/ ideas/ contacts with magazines/ papers/ and the community to increase awareness of the club, contacting and possibly booking speakers/ manufacturers/ etc for presentations, sponsorship, and possible discounts for the club. We are still looking for someone else to volunteer, if no one else is interested at the next general meeting, Scott will fill the position.
·Research performed by Rob and Gerde regarding contacting local people interested in the saltwater hobby on RC and MI Reefers indicated that we could not get a contact list for these people due to privacy acts. We still are working on getting our meetings posted on the MI Reefers calendar.
·A thread was started after the July meeting regarding ideas for meeting topics, there have been no responses to this thread to date. We welcome all suggestions/ ideas that you would like to see discussed. If you would like to give a brief presentation about a topic of interest to you, please let us know and we will schedule it for a meeting soon.
·Group Order: We discussed the option for a group order, we will plan to start with a group order for clean-up crew. Please make a wish list of items you would like and we will finalize the order at the next meeting for delivery at the October meeting.
·Gerde is talking with Scott (the manager of Chow Hound at 28th and Eastern) about possible discounts for club members, more to come as this progresses.
·Auction/ Swap Meet: We are having difficulty getting a public space that will allow food and saltwater. In order to continue to make progress with this endeavor we will need help from club members about possible space to host this Auction/ Swap meet. RJWilson and Ed have some leads that they will discuss with us at the next meeting. The tentative dates considered are: November 12 or Dec 3rd. If you have any ideas please bring them to the next meeting.
·Treasurer Report: As of the last meeting we had 12 active members who paid dues which generated $288 for the club. We also generated $66 from the auction at the June meeting. Total funding for the club: $354.
·Gerde gave a great presentation about his 50gallon reef tank and his plans for improvement. Please ask Gerde about his tank if you would like more information.
·Auction!!! We had a very successful auction this meeting with several very nice corals and lots of macroalgae. The next meeting will also have an auction, please bring more beautiful pieces for auction and cash for your purchases.
·Agenda for September meeting:
-Mission statement, we did not have time to discuss this at this meeting, please bring ideas for the next meeting
-Finalize plans for checking account
-Discuss Auction/ Swap meet further, hopefully set at definitive date and place.
