species tank? I know Chad and Robin have a green mantis shrimp tank...I now have a flat worm tank (courtesy of Dave at Kermit's).

Does anyone else have a tank setup just for one species of fish, invert, coral, clam, etc.?

I think species tanks are always interesting.

Why can't your little buddy play in the other tank? He's promised to be on his best behavior.

I wanted mine in a small tank where he would be easier to see. He would get lost in a large tank, and possibly eat my snails, and clams.

You got a powerhead in there?

I didn't have a species tank, but I did have a predator tank. It was just puffers and 2 eels. I quickly discovered that keeping a feeder tank of goldfish and carbon and skimmer going at all times was pretty messy.

I don't know yet. I have had it for exactly a week; so far, all it does is hide and peek out at me.

I got a small green hitchiker. I saw the large one at Kermit's. Mine is only about an inch long.

I have a Tetraodon nigrifilis (spotted puffer) all alone in a 12 Gallon. I guess that qualifies as a species tank...

Yep, the mantis does look like that. He is really interesting to watch. Does the mantis pictured feed on hermits and snails? I have a few of the small black and white Cerith sp. snails that come on Marshall Is. rock in with him. He doesn't pay any attention to them or the 3 small hermits cleaning his tank.

Although he is going after some krill in the picture...he does like to smash snails and hermits too. Turbo snails don't last very long at all with him. We have a couple hermits with him that have very thick shells which he hasn't been able to get into yet...but he trys all the time, lol. He is a very interesting creature to say the least. Post some pictures of yours if you can.

P.S. the mantis pictured above is Chad and Robin Hanson's.
Thanks for chiming in Robin.

What would happen if you put the Puffer and the Mantis together?

Does a diatom and hair algae tank qualify?

Those are two different species, but keep trying.

They all kill fish. Unless you get one of those pacifist mantis, or maby one that just discovered Jesus.

I think mine is a pacifist. He has yet to smash anything I put in the tank: hermits, snails,etc.... He doesn't even seem to eat the krill that I put in for him. I put it right in his burrow and he will wrestle with it for a few seconds and then tosses it out for the hermits and nassarius snails. Is this normal? Maybe he did discover Jesus and is fasting?

Well, he hasn't been in there long correct? Probaby still settling in.
