GRMAS July 6, 2005 meeting minutes

·Due to holidays planning to switch September meeting to Wednesday September 7 (Labor Day is Monday September 5) and tentatively switching January 2006 meeting to Wednesday January 4 2006). We have checked the calendar for the room and it is available and now reserved for us for the September meeting.

·We discussed how often we would like to have auctions at the end of our general meetings. We will plan to have an auction at the August 2005 meeting. We will also vote on how often club members would like to have auctions. Our options are: 1) every month 2.) every other month 3.) every month (except during summer months, when attendance is usually down). Please consider your preference for voting at the August meeting.

·We would still like a volunteer to fill the Trustee position on the officer board. We would like to see this position develop into a Correspondence Secretary. This position would entail: set-up speakers coming to meetings (product/ company representatives, “specialists� in the reefing community, etc.) and assist in spreading the knowledge of GRMAS within the community. If you are interested in this position please let us know via the RC forum or at the next meeting.

·We discussed the potential to set-up group orders for members of the club. Look on RC forum for group ordering information.

·Community knowledge of GRMAS: We will be looking into placing our meetings on the Michigan Reefers calendar (will be contacting moderators for this) and will also be checking with the moderators to determine if there is a means for contacting other local reef keepers to inform them of the club.

·There will be a posting on RC to list any ideas/ topics you would like to see discussed at upcoming meetings. Please let us know in your post if you feel comfortable presenting on the topic mentioned.

·Auction/ Swap Meet: Discussed need to start planning the Auction/ Swap Meet event we have discussed previously. Have decided that would like to consider November 12 or December 3 as potential dates for this event. The purpose of this event will be to generate funds for the club. Discussed potential means for generating funds during this event: auction (60/40 split, extra charge for “call-ups� to get your item to be auctioned sooner), swap (charge for tables to sell corals during the swap), raffles, possibility of selling refreshments during the event. We are currently looking for a place to host this event, the optimal place would have public parking/ allow saltwater and refreshments/ and be free or reasonable to rent. If any one has a membership to a VFW hall, or other club hall and would be interested in getting info for us this would be greatly appreciated. We will discuss progress and further opinions regarding this at the next meeting.
