Hi Randy,
Is there a way to test specifically for silicates without ICP? Or should I get a TDS meter?
My R/O membrane is over ten years old:eek1:. I think I'm due for a replacement and perhaps a DI cartridge add on. What do you think?
Thanks:)

Hach makes a nice silica test kit (IMO). Make sure you get the low range kit (Si-7; number 22550-00), that can easily read sub ppm Si.

Ah, thank you. Do you know if any LFS sell that kit? (We're both in the Boston area.)
Thanks again!

People usually get them directly from Hach: www.hach.com
I believe that there are other silica tests around (salifert?) but I have no experience with them.

I am using the Salifert Si test.
It is very easy to use and has a range of 0 - 3 mg/l (as SiO2). Smallest color change indicates 0.03 mg/l (if the kit really works which I can't confirm) and anything above 0.25 mg/l is really easy to detect since the color change at that point is fairly strong.
