View Full Version : I saw the most awesome thing!!!!!

Ok, well maybe the most awesome thing next to my son's birth.

We went out 32 miles offshore to get some grouper, on Tuesday. While out there we had a 25 foot Whale Shark swim within 10 feet of the boat. We were in a 22 foot boat and he was much bigger. That is a memory that I will never forget for as long as I live. This makes me want to swim with them if I am blessed to see another. When they say on TV that these fish get bigger than a school bus, THEY MEAN IT!!!

Wow Nathan that is amazing...I have spent alot time on the water and offshore, maybe not as far as 32 miles and never have witnessed any mammal like that...What chance of a lifetime...Also just to be on record, Dude be carefull out there 32 miles in a 22' is a risk. I know we used to run a 22' out alot but man as I get older that just scares me....Hopefully you ill have a camera at hand if you ever get a sighting again...

You work for a newspaper and didn't have a camera? Peter Parker would slap you! Why did you need to go out 32 miles? I mean, that's freakin' far!

That's incredible!!! To think that any one could see something like that besides Jaques Coustau. WOW that is cool.

Hey scott,

I know about the 22 foot boat be kinda small for that far of a trip. When my buddy goes out he always goes with atleast 1 more boat. He said he would never go out that far alone.

Pete,

We went out to the hard bottom. it is out there a little ways. We did good. Between the two boats we bagged 7 good sized grouper. I caught a 27" and a 26" and lost something BIG, i think a big shark.

That's amazing- I get veklempt (sp?) just watching about whale sharks on the discovery channel. What an awesome experience!

Hey James,

Yes, I have about 20 pounds of grouper and about 15 pounds of kobia from a Skyway trip in the freezer.
