WOW!!! I received the shipment of 15 zooanthid frags and 5 mushroom corals. As a reminder, these were purchased online to evaluate the quality and selection of zoos, for a possible group buy in the future.
I can not begin to tell you how pleased I am, and the polyps have not all opened up yet!
Here is what I bought:
1. 15 assorted zoo frags. Each frag has 10-15 polyps, and is chosen by the reef store. Zoos cost $77.00.
2. 5 Shrooms. Cost $11.00.
Shipping cost $39.00 for Fed Ex Overnight delivery.
The total is $127.00.
$6.25 for each specimen. That is a bargain!
I spoke to the seller and notified him of our club's intent to buy future corals. The selections I received may have been more generous than a regular purachse. I have yet to hear back from him regarding special treatment.
Here is what I got:
17 zoo frags. All alive. One frag had about 12 polyps, all the other frags had 20 to 40 polyps! I could not believe this. This is why I think I may have gotten special treatment. All the frags delivered appeared to be part of an original colony where the rock was cut off, or a branch was broken from the colony. This is evident by seeing fresh break marks in the rock. Furthermore, many of the zoo polyps were completely wrapping around a bracnching rock. These frags were not small portions of mat that were super-glued to a piece of live rock, or rubble (which is what was expected).
4 small, (1/2") shrooms mounted to live rock. One shroom had died and fouled the water in the bag.
The frags arrived in a styro box with no ice packs. The frags were in individual baggies with a 1/2 to 1 cup portion of seawater. Two frags were then placed in a larger baggie and sealed. Packing was well done. Only one death occured with the shipment, and two more zoo frags were shipped than expected.
Pics will come shortly. This was a true winner! I think I have more zoos than I know what to do with. Now they just need to grow, grow, grow!!!
The Bottom Line: Cost was $6.05 for each specimen (considering that more was delivered than expected). Each zoo frag was three times the size as promised. Great packing, Great service. The downside is that I asked for each frag to be labeled with a common name. None were labeled.
