Well, my wife and I did it tonight. I can't say it was the most pleasant experience. I was having a great time, learned to clear the mask, the regulator, had a good time motoring around in the deep end of the pool....then got sick to my stomach, had to leave the pool. I don't know if it was because the pool was so warm (89 degrees) or if it was because we ate just before we got into the pool. I'm going to have to try it again before I take the certification classes, I think.

89 degrees, so they teach SCUBA in hot tubs up there? :D
Next time you might want to wait an hour after you eat before your get in the water.
I hope you are feeling better, and dont give up. How did Ms M do? did she enjoy it?

FWIW its not uncommon for divers to get a upset stomach during a dive.

Again, feel better.

Not used to all the hydrostatic pressure on the tummy/misoriented guts, Larry? :D You're one of us now!

Hot Tub diving! Now there is a sport :D
The most likely culprit for the upset stomach is a combination of the resent meal and anxiety. The meal is best avoided before the dive, as SkiDog mentions. The anxiety goes away with time and practice. Good luck next time.

I don't know why they would keep the pool so hot, I was hoping someone could shed light on that. :) There was a guy there who came to watch his wife--poor dude was dripping wet by the end of the hour just being in the pool area.
I think all the somersaults I was doing on a full stomach might have contributed a tad to the nausea. :D It was a blast, though. Next time I'll use a little more common sense and do like Mom used to say.
horge--I doubt that one hour in the pool puts me in the same league as someone who free-dives on natural reefs, but thanks for the courtesy anyway.
I'm going to start searching for another dive shop where I don't feel like a lobster during the experience--I actually felt like I was sweating underwater last night.

Hot water is just as dangerous as cold water. Find a more reasonable pool and enjoy!! Mike
