Jim--There are abandoned strip mines in northern Minnesota, my nephew has used them at times for diving. There are also plenty of lakes in the area, and from what I hear a couple are clear enough for good diving. Then, there's always Lake Superior....
I can't imagine we are going to get too worked up about freshwater diving, but time will tell.

:D I took her along last night to the local dive shop, the owner was there, no one else in the store, he was in a mood to spend some time with us. By the time we left he had signed her up for a "discover" class the end of Feb. For $15 you get an hour and a half in their pool trying out SCUBA. Only eight students, supervised by him. She is pretty excited about it, needless to say so am I!! :D

Are there any abondoned strip mining pits in your area?...If they have struck a spring, it makes for some good practice dive time....If you wife is joining you, you will need mucho, real world diving{other than pool} to hone your communication skills when actual events come up... We leased one from a farmer for around the cost of this BB!...Then it was used for check out dives for local students; and our useage was free!...Open water experience is important for new students...How many months of the yr is the climate "wet suit" diveable?...You should be learning this around now!..hehe

Good luck on a hobby that will be a money pit; unless there is local action....Pool diving sucks after a while...hehe...

Best regards...jim

Good for her!
My wife unfortunately has major sinus problems that will prevent her from ever diving :( but I'm hoping when my 6 year old daughter gets old enough she'll want to take up diving :D As it is she is very inquisitive about my gear and likes to try it on, she especially likes to help me rinse everything (mostly me :)) off after I've been diving.

Larry, I guess I assumed she was always in with you for diving... Congrats! Here's my "wife" story:

Chris hates the water. Can't even get her to swim in the ocean, or any body of water for that matter which isn't chlorinated.

She watched me in the Disney 2,000,000gal fish tank, and started to show an interest in trying it. Signed her up for a "Discover" class, and that was it. Now she loves to dive lakes, ocean, whatever.

Still can't get her to swim in the ocean though...

watson--from Minnesota to St. Lucia, how cool is that!! We sailed past there last year on a cruise, had to cancel our scheduled stop because your port was being worked upon. What a beautiful place to live. Do you ever get to Saba for diving?
Anyway, thanks for letting me know.
