Doug, how do you like the D30 Cannon?

I really like the camera a lot. It has just about every feature that I could have wanted and the best part is that I can use the Canon EOS line of lens which makes it much more flexible than the fixed lens type cameras.

I am still learning to use it since I have only had it for few weeks now but I have taken close to 2000 pics already and most of them look excellent.

I have had six different digital cameras over the last few years and I am pretty sure that the D30 will be with me for longer than the others.

The best camera that I had before this one was an Olympus E-10 and while it was an excellent camera it cannot hold a candle to the D30 on features and image quality.

The D30 is absolutely fantastic camera if you are coming from 35mm world. The images are very clean up to 400 ISO and the camera doesn't apply too much sharpening so you can control the sharpening yourself in image editing software. Images taken at 100-200 ISO easily beat 35mm slide scanned with normal desktop slide scanner (IME).

The only bad thing about D30 is it's slow autofocus when compared to other cameras in EOS line. In good light and contrast it is quite fast and doesn't hunt but low light seems to cause some problems. Having a EX series flashlight can help little since they have infrared focus assist light.

I have attached a image to show you the noise level at 800 ISO. This image was taken with 28-135IS zoom and 25mm extender without tripod. This is a crop from a larger image. Even though the noise can clearly be seen it is always better to have a bad image than no image at all!

I've put together an album of some of my favorite macros for your enjoyment at http://homepage.mac.com/richwillus/PhotoAlbum5.html Take the time to download the full size images, some are quite amazing.

[These were all shot with a D30, 25mm extension, 70-200L, and 550 flash.]
