View Full Version : What lighting do you use for your refugium?
Prefer to post here, people are much nicer and respond more than the general discussion section. Question says it all.
Looking to light a 20 gallon rubbermaid tub. Thinking LOA 65w, but appears alot of people have trouble with them. Thanks.

jrod,
I use those 65 watt GE growlights for plants on a similar sized refugium.I think that's what you were referring to.They do a great job for me, you just have to replace them every once in a while.Otherwise you could save up for a 175 w MH .

Hey Im using 2 15W fluorescent GE plant/aquarium tubes. They don't put off too much heat and have a broader spread than an incandescent bulb.

I am using an vho lighting setup from a 50 gallon tank on my 65 gallon refugium. From what I have read, you can put just about any lighting that will grow plantlife on your refugium and it will work. I used lights that were left over from another system that was broken down.

My refugium is a 33 long (12x13x48) so I got a shop light with two foor foot NO flourecents total 80 watts. As close to the water line as I could get with no hood, about 4 inches. Works great.
Boris.
Just read what I wrote:o noticed 8 watts, should read 80.

Hey y'all....Haven't posted with you folks in a while. I'm the nano guy, and the custom hang on, or rather, "stand-behind" refugium from my 10 gallon has a 13 watt PC over it. Not sure of the spectrum, but it is a Home Depot Phillips bulb. Works well.

Steve: Glad to hear about the blastamussa...the other half of the colony that I still have is doing well also. Also still hoping you have that ricordia we spoke about!
Rovert: I still have your email archived with those few ricordia that you had...did they acclimate themselves well? If they split, hold one for me.
I had a nasty little mishap with my 10 gal, and the refugium specifically....I'll give you some details at another time, but it was a real stupid mistake, and it cost me a few frags and a gave me a few grey hairs....
Needless to say, I've got the 12, 10 & 6 going strong again, and my 7 gal cube cube should be set up soon, and I've been toying with a "real" tank, somewhere in the 30-50 gal range, now that the house is almost there.
I'll try to stay in the loop in the future.
