Hey,
I'm infected. I have the win32.hostblock virus. Has anyone dealt with this virus before? I can't find anything on the net to help me get rid of it. I use Eztrust for my antivirus program and it detects that it is there and says that it has removed it but it doesn't. Can anyone help?

Jimmy,

I can't find anything on that virus. Do you know what file is infected? What Operating System do you have?

Will,
I am using Windows 2000 Pro. It is affecting 2 different files.
Documents & Settings/user/local settings/temporary internet files/content.IE5/BOSB3V21 And this file winnt/system32/drivers/etc/hosts. Since this has started 3 days ago everything that I look at on screen is blurred by darker colors. Like on my desk all of my icon have like a shadow smeared across the screen horizontally. It also does this on pages with type on it. Wherever the type is it has a shadow behind it going across the screen. What sucks about this virus is that it blocks you from accessing certain antivirus webpages so that you can't download
updates.
Thanks for any help,
Jimmy

First you need to empty your temporary internet files. After you do that reboot and see if everything clears up.

Next I would rename the Hosts file to Hostinfected and then try to get to your antivirus website to get your latest updates.

Here is the manual removal process in case you need it.

The virus is taken care of. But my screen is still the same. Any ideas?

Jimmy- do you know how to "degauss" your monitor. Go through the menu options on the monitor to do it. Let me know if you have any problems.

Yeah, I have already tried that. This monitor is about 2 years old. I don't think it is it though. You know how all of the icons on your desktop disappear when you are shuting windows down. When this happens my background returns to normal for a brief second.
Thanks

Jimmy- did the shade come all at once or did it gradually get worse.

What kind of computer is it?

If its not fixed by Wednesday afternoon, I can come by (if you want). Let me know.

Sometimes updating your video drivers will work. If it looks like that while windows is loading then it is more likely a bad monitor or video card.

I will update the drivers to see if that will fix it. It didn't just gradually happen. It was fine the night that I went to bed and like this the next morning. Rick I will let you know. If you still want to come by and check out the tank that will be fine also.
Thanks guys!
