My mayor concern is the lighting only have 52w PC on my 10g. I know that Derasa and Squamosa don't need too strong Light.

But, Will it be fine with my setup ?

I would go for 150W or at least 70W MH. :)

Actually Tridacna derasa do need more light. I agree with firechild, a 150w HQI would be ideal for your 10g.

Well, there is no clam that will grow under 52w. I'll better forget the idea until I get a bigger tank. Hmmm! Honey we need to get rid of the sofa I need space for a bigger tank.

I have a squamosa in my 12 gallon nano with PC lighting, he is right up close to the top and loves it there. Have had no problems with it.

I had a Derasa in a 30G tall with 3 x 65W PC on there. He was doing fine and showed slow growth. Here is a pic of him as he is today.

T. derasa is related to T. gigas. Slow growth would be an indicator that maybe all might not be so well.

IMO, IME

My Derasa was already 6+ inches. I wasn't expecting rapid growth over the period of 4 months. I didn't mention the Maxima's that I also have in there for about 3+ months that were growing a lot faster (about a half inch of growth in that time period).

I think it is dependant upon the intensity of the light and tank conditions. My derasa is now in a 120G tank with dual 250W MH and 196W of PC Atinic. It is just as good now as it was before and now it has more room to move about and spin :D

There's a baby Squamosa at my LFS. It's been there for 3 three weeks and don't seem happy at all (They use NO lamps), but still opening just a bit. For sure it will be dead by next week

What do you think if I rescue it?

Will it make it with 52w PC?

Rafa

PS: I can add 26w more in the near future, if it helps.

If you are rescuing him I would take the chance. Place him low in your tank and adapt him to your lighting. I have kept a crocea clam in a 2.5 gallon nano with 18 watts of light. No tot say it is the smartest thing I have done but he needed to be rescued too.
