I replied to a post on another ubb by a person that had just got a bubble tip anemone for her clowns, I said that i didn't think the anemone would live more then a few months with her lights and gave them my opinion for lighting upgrades. I went back today and all the other posts are saying that anemones are easy to keep and a number of peple have keep them with just two No lights for over a year, I even got an e-mail from a member saying that giveing my opinion was irresponsible and that the owner of the store that sold the anemone is marine biologist. So have anemones suddenly become easy to keep or what? My favorite post was the one that said he /she had keep a carpet anemone for a year in under No light before it died(wow 1/100th of its life span yeah i must be wrong).

hehehehe, ahhh the wealth of misinformation that's out there. Just post the url of that thread and I bet there might be some opinions real quick to back yours up. ;)

Angel,

I read and post on three sometimes four boards. ReefCentral is great but reefs.org isn't bad. Don't let a couple of people's opinions stop you from sharing your thoughts with a whole group of people.

While we are on the subject, I believe I read Dr. Shimek wrote an article in one of the magazines saying that anemones are better left in the sea because they are such an important link. Anyone no which mag that was in?

Don't worry about it Angel 1. Opinions are plentiful, but that doesn't mean they are correct.

Some people have some success with them, but the vast majority kill their anemones in short order.

Angel 1;

WE agree with you. Its hard when you give good advice and arn't supported.

It's hard to believe not everyone can keep difficult species. I kept (insert species here) under a 40w Blue incandesent bulb. I think the (insert species here, again) was sick when I got it, because it only lived a month. I'll have to get another one to replace it, soon.

Some people's kids.

Angel;
Dont worry. We are behind you on this one. Intense lighting for anemones is fairly common sense, good advice.
If its any help. I know how you feel. Try to help some aquarists and just end up in an argument. This seems especially so when refering to sandbeds for me. :D
I think I read now more than post, keeps me out of trouble.

Well, I had to check out the thread for myself. I think what we have here is another case of a well intentioned but probably uninformed, enthusiastic novice relying on the advice of the "marine biologist/LFS owner" who sold her an E. quadricolor knowing she had a NO fluorescent light strip over a 55g tank that was just set up on May 27, 2000. :rolleyes:

I visited Scott & Jenn's web page and they're obviously very excited and enthusiastic about their new tank and I'm sure they don't realize the limitations of their system. What disturbs me is the advice they are getting from the LFS. :eek:

I suggested she get a copy of Clownfishes by Joyce Wilkerson...I hope she's a fast reader!

yup.

People can trade anecdotal success (and horror) stories all day. Dwayne - your post is simply perfect. :D

Give 'em your thoughts, point a few links their way to some decent material, shrug, and wish them luck. Often, if the animal is in tank already, folks tend to get overly defensive unless you handle the topic with kid gloves. :rolleyes:
