My wolf eel that looked very healthy. A few days ago, he slowed down on his eating. I also noticed heavier breathing in the last few days.

My numbers were ok, Nitrates under 15. I did a few water changes to get them down even more.

Today, I found him dead. He had a huge blue/green stain around his stomach.

I took him out of the tank, cut his stomach open and a bunch of blue liquid came out, beyond a normal fish. He/she was also had eggs.

Could that be internal bleeding? All my other fish look fine.

I have not used any chemicals or medications.

Any ideas?

Wow, sorry to hear about your loss. I am certainly not a fish disease expert, so I probably won't be able to offer much insight. My wife is pretty good in treating some diseases that clownfish get, but what you are describing doesn't sound like anything we have run across before.

From what you have said, it sounds like your fish was a female. I do know that females will produce eggs and 'lay' them (so to speak) even if they are in a tank all by themselves. It is possible that your female became egg-bound and was causing some sort of internal blockage (hence the reduction in feeding and increased breathing).

Sorry I can't offer any more than that.
