I just got an e-mail. Its a pic of a snake that was caught in africa, i guess. They opened it up and found a man , yes a man, not a child inside. I was gonna post it, may still, but maybe too much for kids to see, and I think we have a few parusing our fair BB these days. I just wonder why they sent it to me

Hey hes,
Is it the one where the middle of the animal is opened and a arm is being pulled from the carcass?...If so, it showed up at one of our machines today at work... I was right in the middle piece of candy, and almost choked!...I thought it was a croc, instead of a snake   I have to get a better look tomorrow when I go back to work...

What kind of snake? The only 2 that I am aware of getting large enough to eat an adult are the anaconda and reticulated python.

Hes, thanks for putting up those picks :)

From what I could dig up, the largest python in africa is the south african python. Males get to 14' and females to 16'. This puts them up with large burmese pythons and reticulated pythons. Definately snakes that comand a lot of respect, and have been known to kill adults when not handled with that respect.

I checked a reference that had the largest of the Pythons (Reticulate Python the largest) in excess of thirty feet. Found in southeast Asia.

One of the grossest things I've encountered was the stench of the result of what happens when a meal does not agree with a snake, and the snake rejects partially digested prey. Wow.

The largest python I ever saw personally was only 4 metres in length, but was over a metre in circumference at the thickest.

A smallish man would be no problem, but he would have had to be fairly weak/incapacitated for a snake to git im.
The snake I saw was securely tied up and very angry. I would be too if I was about be made into stew.

Any snakes that big here in Chicago?

That last picture was going around over a year ago, with a warning that some golf courses in Florida may not be safe. It seems a golfer had gotten separated from his party looking for a lost ball and never returned. Someone finally noticed that "Ol' George" the course's resident Florida "Crocodile" ('gator?) was more plump than usual. Upon examination, the missing golfer was found. <shrug> I found it pretty unbelievable (albeit, disgusting) then, too. ;)

The 1st series of pix (with the snake) look faked to me. The body shape & size of a human simply doesn't match up with the size & shape inside the snake (initially). Besides which, a snake of that size simply couldn't have swallowed the person pictured (IMHO): not only would the snake have had a really difficult time spreading its maleable jaws to swallow this person, but the internal structure of this specific snake itself probably couldn't have accomodated a human-sized meal. The weight alone of a human would fracture the pictured snake's ribs: the snake simply isn't large enough IMHO.

The 2nd pic (of the crocodile) is much more believable. Crocs are well known to kill and eat humans, and the torn nature of the limb shown (with tooth puncture marks if you look closely) is much more believable.

Lots of sick wierdos out there. You seriously got to question the motives of the person who originally sent these pix out to other people...

Those old pictures have been passed around many, many times. Of course the python pictures are fake. They are a myriad or reasons why, but the bottom line is snakes don't eat people! About 80% of snakebites are due to people trying to catch or kill them. Of the other 20%, most can be chalked up to chance encounters (i.e. stepping on a sleeping snake). Snakes would much rather run than fight; even the big ones. On a side note, the snake in the picture is (was) a large reticulated python. The crocodile incedent did happen, but it certainly wasn't at a golf course in florida. The crocodile in the picture is a large nile crocodile, and did eat someone in africa as the pictures depict. These are the crocs you see on the discovery channel taking 500 lb. hoofstock off the bank. However, there has never been a single documented case of an american alligator eating anyone. Alligators eat mostly fish and some small mammals. They are really pretty harmless in comparison. Public hysteria sucks. My mother still won't go near the ocean because she thinks sharks are going to eat her...

OK, I have discussed these pictures numerous times with foremost reptile experts, and there is absolutely no doubt the python pictures are a hoax. The snake pictures are completely fake. The person is way too big. I know quite a few people with snakes larger than the one in the pics, and most of them find large rabbits or stillborn calves to be enough of a struggle. That reticulated python (about 15 feet, give or take) could have never swallowed anything near that size. Also, look at the pictures where the snake is in the truck and specifically focus on the shape of the bulge. There is no way that's a person in there. Not even close. It's also pretty easy to see that the snake was manipulated to appear larger for the pictures. Just look at the head and neck of the snake. Contrary to popular belief, snakes cannot dislocate their jaws and cannot physically swallow any prey bigger than 1.5 to 2.5 times their girth at the most. How big does that bulge look in comparison with the head of the snake? Now look at the picture with the body partially exposed. Has anyone else here ever seen what happens to prey that is partially digested? It literally gets turned into mush. If we are to believe that the body made it through at least 1/3 (judging by the pictures) of the digestive system, the body would be almost unrecognizable. Instead, he is not only completely intact, but still still has untouched clothes and normal skin pigmentation. I have it on very good authority that the black african who was eaten by the crocodile was only dead for a number of hours before being pulled out. Look at the skin color and (lack of) body composition. It would have taken that python DAYS just to swallow a person, that is, if it were even possible. I know, different digestive systems, but you get the point. The entire hoax is based on the confliction of nature. Snakes want absolutely nothing to do with people. A defensive bite or constriction is one thing, but we make terrible food to them. To my knowledge, there has never once been a documented case of a snake eating an adult. It's time to put these pictures to rest. That snake never ate anyone...

Kris

I used to raise large pythons. People often sent me photos of snakes with dead humans inside. I assure you, several species get to be large enough to eat an adult human, including the Anaconda, the Reticulated Python, the Burmese Python, the African Rock Python, and possibly the Australian Python. When you have seen your 13 foot retic devour large rabbits, you can imagine what a 30 foot specimen could eat.

metamorphis
04/25/2001, 11:08 PM
I have to wonder about your experience if you think all those snakes could eat an adult, or anything even close to that size. Retics don't have the girth, African rocks just don't get big enough, and if by "australian python" you meant to say Olive python, you are kidding yourself. Have you ever seen of heard of a 30 footer? Baby, the guinness record holder for largest snake ever recorded, is a mere 26.5'. Keep in mind she is a burmese and weighs around 400 lbs. if I can remember right. Even so, I doubt she could ever take anything bigger than 60 or 70 lbs at the very most. Exceptionally large burmese or green (not common yellow ones) anacondas are best suited to take large prey, but still never even attempt to take anything half as big as a person. Don't take my word for it. Go ask Bob Clark, the Barkers, or anyone else you know that has kept and bred THOUSANDS of large pythons.
