I was wondering if anyone has had any success with the Moorish Idol. I saw one fore sale at LFS and it looked healthy. I saw the fish eat live brine. I know they are hard to keep. Does anyone have any success stories, advice?

On finding nemo the Moorish idol in that dentist seems fine, and it looks like its in a 30G tank with some biowheel filter and pretty pink rocks as the base and the freaky decorations. No live rock or sand. And they spent their days researching the stuff in the ocean they don't even take the time to ask someone what goes in there.

moorish idols shouls be left for the "experts", or in my opinion, simply left in the ocean where it belongs. even though you are seeing it eat live brine - brine will not sustain the animal for any particular length of time.

my personal opinion - look but don't touch

yeah... I don't think you really should bother with them, even though they are pretty cool looking swimming (in their natural environment)

WantaBeReefer, Even though I keep Idols I think you should skip one for a few years. They are very hard to keep alive and the ones that live over a year or two are few and far in between. I have been experimenting with them and I even just came back from a diving vacation in Tahiti just to learn more about them.
Some day we will be keeping them like guppies but not just yet.

if your doing a fish only set up, yes i think you would do fine, reef set up, no too much waste in the reef to keep it alive, my 2 cents
