View Full Version : Frag / trade interest?

I've got some green star polyps that need to be trimmed back and some anthelia that my tuxedo urchin fragged, and was wondering if anyone would be interested in a trade? I'd consider just about anything. I've also got some red 'shrooms that could be fragged.

Anthelia is similar to xenia but it doesn't branch (one "hand" of tentacles per stalk). A very nice looking soft coral with minimal lighting requirements (it did fine for ~4 months under 15 watts but grows faster with more light). These have two to four inch stalks and are white with a hint of rose. Here's a picture that doesn't do them justice: http://www.aquariumarts.com/clovepolyp.html

I've also got algea eating isopods which I can throw in. They're Sphaeromatids, per Dr. Ron, http://archive.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=544943) and have cleared my nano-cube of just about everything but macro algea and coraline (hair, turf, and just about everything else you find in a post-cycle bloom). They're not the prettiest bugs (cross a shrimp & a pill bug), but they love algae.

I've already got some GSP coming, but the algae eating pods do peak my interest. Unfortunately I don't really have anything to trade for them.....

Unfortunately the old frag tray is pretty bare right now. I will look you up after my next round of frags.

Ohioreefer -- no problem, you can just have some.

Slicktrax -- keep me posted.

Anyone out there have micro brittle stars? I was hoping to get some in the sand trade but haven't seen any yet.

How do you catch the pods?

I'm back from Columbus now, so we'll have to arrange a date I can run down.

Thanks!!!

I just drop a strip of nori into the tank and in a few hours it's covered. I figured I'd put the nori in a ziplock and they'd bag themselves... ;-)

If they work as well for you as they have for me maybe we can figure out some way to market them.

Late this week or this weekend work for me -- PM me and we can work out the details.

Subrafta will the pods do anything for red slime?

Micki,

I don't know if they'll do anything for red slime but I don't think it's likely. They're sphaeromatid isopods which are scavengers and algea eaters.

You're welcome to have some if you want to give it a try. If we've found a bug that'll eat algea and red slime we'll make a fortune!

John

p.s. Here's the article I used to identify them. It has a lot of good info and links to more details: http://www.reefkeeping.com/issues/2002-05/rs/
