What is a cookie??

Besides the kind you put in milk that is...how can they affect your computer? Has been explained to me before, but I feel I am not grasping the concept (took me 3 tries to understand the '1st, 2nd and 3rd down concept in football :D )

Cookies are simply a bit (or few bytes :)) of data that a website puts in a cache or cookie folder (depends on the browser you use). They aren't programs so they can't do anything to you pc. Usually, they're used to keep track of how many times your pc accesses that site, or to remember where you've been on their site, etc. Ever notice how the first time you enter a site, it takes a bit longer to load than the next time? Part of that's due to your history folder, but part of it's due to the cookies in your folders too. They aren't a bad thing, but depending on how much surfing you do, they can add up. I usually clear my cookie folders once a week or two. HTH

Yea, cookies are for the most part harmless, that is unless you mind random sites being able to track where you have been and reporting it back to their site when you return. There are other negative aspects about them but 99% of them are harmless. I set my comp to accept but then immediatly trash them. Do an internet search on them you will find out all sorts of crazy things that can be done with them.

Only thing that could possibally compete with a cookie would be ice cream. But put me down in front of a plate full of Mystic Mints and a bowl of cherry cheesecake ice cream and make me choose one...I'd be there all night!

Yea, on my computer I put do not accept cookies-I think it still does tho-I guess my local ISP sees where I go anyway-everyone goes to those porn sights...right??? :D just kidding

me, I LOVE a mcd's shake to dip my french fries in...wayyyy better than a cookie :D
