Jeez, all I did was buy a new mouse. My cheapo that came with the comp was getting a little jerky, so with a gift certificate to the local electronic heaven I come home with a new Microsoft intellimouse--one of the jobbies with no ball. The software hangs up on me....finally I end up with problems: My monitor is stuck on 16 colors, that's right 16 colors at 640X480. Any effort to change it crashes the system. Meanwhile it also screws up my dsl connect program??????? And, everytime I re-start the machine I get an error message that rundll has crashed.

Finally, in desperation I get the dsl catch worked out and log onto the net. I can barely read the screen LOL but I do a search for "rundll" and one hit takes me to a message board. I do a search and find someone who had the same problem. After running down a link to Microsoft's support FAQ's I come up with this solution: add one line to the System.ini file: "drivers=mmsystem.dll"

I have no idea what I'm doing, but I do it, restart the computer and it worked. So apparently the software for the freaking mouse is corrupt.

Ya gotta love it--pay $50 for a stupid mouse that was made by the largest corporation in the world and it crashes it's own operating system.

Hi Larry,

Yup! I do love it. Great example.

I use a Logitech Marble Mouse, by the way, faster and more precise - for me - than mobile mousies.

Look at the bright side, at least Microsoft doesn't make airplanes...

Cheers, Ron

Me too, me too! :D I got it 'velcro-ed' to the right arm of my Captain's Chair; in the only room in the house that she lets me have :)

I hate those regular mousey-thingies...Too much work!

Have fun guys!...jim

:D Mouse story, part 2: About a year ago my lovely wife bought me one of those roller meeces. I worked with it for two weeks. Finally I returned the dang thing--it was like wiping my backside with my feet. Felt totally foreign to me for some reason. My hand-eye coordination was thrown wayyyyyy off.
I guess I'm stuck with using the plain old country field mouse instead of the high tech city mouse.
This was another reminder of the old saying "back up your system before you change anything. 'course, where would the fun be in that. :)

Please repeat over and over:

Microsoft is my friend.
Microsoft knows what I need.
Microsoft is good.
Good is Microsoft.

Hey Larry,
Was it this one?...If not, you really should give it another try...It might look weird at first, but the design makes perfect sense...

Hey Jim--Nice white hand there. :D Looks like you get out about as much as I do. Hehehehe.
BTW, that's Craw, not claw.
That one looks different than the one I tried.

Ok, we are cruising now. I got me a Logitech MouseMan mouse with Web wheel. This baby has auto scroll, 4 mouse buttons, plus a web-wheel with a pop-up screen that allows you to enter 5 favorites. HAHAHAHAHAHA And so far it hasn't crashed my computer.
Take that, Microsoft.
Who says you can't invent a better mouse? Next thing you know these babies will be changing diapers too. :D

Let's review Microsoft briefly. We are talking about a company here that releases an OS that has 60,000+ bugs in it (Windows 2000 NT). I wonder how many other Fortune 500 companies can sell things that don't work?

On the other hand, they have taken the world of PC computing to a new level. Without the power that Microsoft has provided, would we be posting on this excellent board right now?
