View Full Version : Club sharing orders

Micki
03/23/2005, 09:31 AM
Good morning all! Just wondering if there is interest in club members sharing orders. For example, marinelife said he orders bags of resin for RODI. I think he said $99.00 for a large bag that lasts three years, (please correct me if I am wrong marinelife). That might be something members would be interested in splitting to keep cost to a minimum. Are there other things? Clean up crews etc. Some companies offer free shipping if the order is over a certain amount. Any thoughts? We could start a list:

1) Resin

Coral frags/fish would be good to do as a group order, really anything would because the more you buy the better when it comes to shipping cost. $99 was the cost two years ago, I am looking at the site now checking the pricing and will get back to you in a few

Great! Thanks!!!

Looks like it is $129.99 now for the resin unless you buy 10 then it is $99 plus shipping, I would guess shipping is about $40 a bag and would get cheaper as you get more. They have refillable cartridges as well. As far as splitting a DI bag I would not be able to do that, but can order more bags to split. I will also be ordering from Premium Aquatics if anyone needs some supplies.

i would be interested in splitting an order, but i need a refillable cartridge also. should we order

Micki

sounds good to me! Anyone else want in?

This is the RO/DI that Micki has and they sells bags with 3-6oz refills in it (180z total) its $18 a bag but i dont knwo how much shipping.

Red, if you talk to them I bet they sell the refillable housing too. Just trying to help out a little

bigfalcon36
03/23/2005, 11:37 AM
that 180z is supposed to be "18oz" sorry about that

marinelife
03/23/2005, 11:54 AM
Seems over priced since you can get around 50pound bag for $129.99 plus shipping

bigfalcon36
03/23/2005, 11:57 AM
like I said, just trying to help.

redpyro
03/23/2005, 12:14 PM
of course individual fills will be more than bulk...thats how economics works

Micki
03/23/2005, 12:17 PM
Hey Big, that's why I suggested gotting an order and splitting it. Kind of crazy to buy a little for about what you would pay for a larger amount.

bigfalcon36
03/23/2005, 12:31 PM
I am about to order a RO/DI from airwaterice.com ...Micki how have the readings been on yours since you've had it? Have the TDS went up or stayed low? I ask becasue the one I was of airwaterice.com is $189 and the one on eBay is $115 plus shipping. Let me know.

Micki
03/23/2005, 01:03 PM
I've been happy with mine. As long as I keep enough resin it works great! I have no regerets! Is the $189.00 a 5 stage or 6 stage? I think OhioReefer and me have the same unit.

bigfalcon36
03/23/2005, 02:14 PM
its a 6 stage for home and reef use. here's the link let me know what you think

http://www.airwaterice.com/product/1DUALHOMEREEF

Micki
03/23/2005, 02:18 PM
Big, the unit you are looking at says uses 50 gallone per day. Mine is a 100 gallon per day. I would say based on the, mine would be the better deal and a lot cheaper too. JMHO!

bigfalcon36
03/23/2005, 03:44 PM
I think the high GPD that I am going to go with is the 75 GPD. From what I've read the water quality drops off when going from 75 to 100 GPD.

Micki
03/23/2005, 04:04 PM
Gary has the same unit as me and asked them to put a 75 gpd membrane instead of a 100. You might want to ask him what he thiks of his.

bigfalcon36
03/23/2005, 04:18 PM
Ok, thanks Micki I'll do that.

bigfalcon36
03/23/2005, 04:42 PM
Have you guys ordered yet????

Micki
03/23/2005, 04:46 PM
nope

bigfalcon36
03/23/2005, 05:39 PM
how are you guys going to make the order? Just one person pay for it and then everyone just chip in for thei amount and split everything up equally? Let me know, because the RO unit off of eBay has a refillable DI unit and the one off of airwaterice.com has a cartridge. I am just trying to figure out which one has the cheapest upkeep. I everyone else has refillable, then I may just go with the one off of eBay for the sake of have cheaper upkeep than buying a cartridge all by myself. Unless Red, would eventually want to go in with me to get a cartridge from Walter, the h2o guru :D

redpyro
03/23/2005, 06:08 PM
i would like to know if i can replace the cartridge from walter with a refillable one?

bigfalcon36
03/23/2005, 06:36 PM
well I am going to be getting a call from them tomorrow, or if they dont call me back, I'll call them. I'll ask them that for you and then get back to you on that.

Does the non-refillable suck?

bigfalcon36
03/23/2005, 06:49 PM
I think that I may have found a loop hole around the whole expensive shipping thing with online stores. My mom has a UPS account that she will let me use as long as it's not outrageous. My brother on the other hand works for Fed-Ex and gets great rates on shipping. So i may be able to work something out that saves us some money.

redpyro
03/23/2005, 07:18 PM
non refillable doesnt suck but would be cheaper if it could refill it

redpyro
03/23/2005, 07:26 PM
ok i just found it on airwaterice
these are their prices for individual fiters...keep in mind from them i can get a package to replace all my filters for $50
but here goes
single color changing DI $29.95
non color changing DI 19.95
4 color changing $99
refillable DI kit with filter

This kit gives you two (2) reusable refillable filter cartridges and enough resin for four refills, five and one half pounds ..

That's just a little over $10.00 per refill.

and 5 lbs of color changing resin for $39.95

ohioreef
03/23/2005, 07:43 PM
Buckeye Field Supply has 5lbs of resin for $39. Not sure how that compares to the price from Resin Depot. RD gives theirs in cubic feet rather than weight so it's hard to compare the prices.

I would be interested in going in together on some sort of cleaner crew order. I'm needing some snails and hermits to battle my HA.

redpyro
03/23/2005, 07:50 PM
i need some sand sifting stuff. never made it to fish store, need stars and snails

bigfalcon36
03/23/2005, 08:04 PM
Red, I just talked to Walter on the phone and he said that they DO NOT have a refillable cartridge yet, but he is getting one and it will hold 1 lb of resin it in.

Also, I am thinking of getting some snails from petsolutions.com they are having a invert sale right now the have Margarita and Cerith's for $1. So let me know and I'll go ahead with it here in the next few days. Or if you want to go to that place in the Oregon District this weekend we can, I heard that you can talk that guy into hooking you up...especially with inverts. Let me know what you want to do.

Travis

Gary it looks like resindepot measures in FT too. Check out the link. http://www.resindepot.com/page10.html

the refillable cartridge is on their site...damnit

Micki
03/23/2005, 08:22 PM
Most of the places I have ordered from have knocked off the shipping charge. There is a lot of competition out there. I never pay S&H to Hello lights. Companies with little competition would probably not do that. I wouldn't think Live orders would do that either. But as for dry goods. I very rarely pay shipping.

bigfalcon36
03/23/2005, 08:23 PM
how do you manage that? Do you just tell them "I'm Micki...do what I say, or else!"

those are for the Typhoon models where the DI stage is vertical, not the horizontal versions...so if you have the reefkeeper or the Dual home reef you're S.O.L. (<---- haven't used that one in a while :) )

ohioreef
03/23/2005, 08:35 PM
Buckeye Field Supply has a vertical cartridge that is refillable and is supposed to fit any standard 10" canister. I've considered taking out one of my charcoal filters and using that canister for DI. I don't know that I need 2 charcoal block filters with well water.

Micki,

That's the problem, RD measures in cubic feet and Buckeye measures by weight.

Oh I'm sorry, I thought you said Buckeye measures in feet. Sorry

marinelife
03/23/2005, 08:37 PM
Any Ro/DI unit can use refillable cartridges, both carbon and DI resin can be refilled. The RO member I have found for my unit to be aabout $40 or so . Also watch the 100GPD unit, the Membrane is not as good, only cleans out like 97-98percent compared to 99percent that the others do, plus some us a 75GPD and say it is 100gpd like mine, and I heard other with the same problem

bigfalcon36
03/23/2005, 08:39 PM

It may work then, the dude gave me his home phone (kind of weird) But I can PM it to you if you want and you can call and talk to him about it. He could clear it up really fast. Let me know if you want it

redpyro
03/23/2005, 08:41 PM
i have talked to him before, he called me from his house, nice guy. Not a huge concern for me because i just replaced my filters but would be nice to know.

bigfalcon36
03/23/2005, 08:51 PM
I think that I am going to have him make me a hyrbid type of RO unit, use the Typhoon 75 GPD and then throw a tank in on it so I can hook it into the fridge and still have the refillable resin chamber. We'll see how it goes.

Slick I am down for a buy of some snails...I have mad algea on my glass. And some stuff for the sand would be good. I'm going to call Just Fish It tomorrow and see about a power buy from him locally. So maybe we wont have to worry about shipping and all that. I'll keep you posted

bigfalcon36
03/23/2005, 09:39 PM
yeah, I heard it for like 45 minutes and I almost made some CHUM for his fish tanks. Anyhow, I'm not trying to be the dudes friend, I'm just trying to get some snails at a decent price without having to pay shipping, I read on here He gave some one a bunch of snails for 50 cents each. by the way, I eventually told him i had flatworms in my tank just to shut him up.

I should have kicked him in the frank and beans! :D :D

bigfalcon36

redpyro
03/23/2005, 10:54 PM
i need Cerith Snails and maybe a fighting conch

ohioreef

Fighting Conchs eat junk off your sandbed so if you are still having your diatom problem, then there you go.
