Hi Hes,

Glad you want to do that... Not me. Spent a lot of my youth wondering if my father would be alright after I heard the sirens wail

My dad was a firefighter. An exploding car battery in a garage fire cost him the sight in one eye. He had other "neat" experiences, like fighting a hardware store fire when all of a sudden the hunting ammo started cooking off. Or the occasional experiences with jet fuel (SAC base on one side of town, Air National Guard on the other). I will leave fighting fires to other folks.

If you really get a hankering for a fun job, combining some other fun experiences with getting close to flames, you can come out to Missoula, MT and join the smoke jumpers. All sorts of real neat ways to die.

Cheers, Ron

Actually, I always wanted to Smoke Jump :D
No, not really. Thats just a little too Yahoo for me.
I started as an EMT and just grew from there. As anyone in the fire and rescue service can tell you, They dont do it for money. Some do it for the rush(these folks scare me) some do it because they feel the need to help. I think your Dad had a call(just my opinion). Just in the last few years has the fire service become much safer then ever. We still have firefighters die from mistakes that shouldnt have happned, but, Id almost bet, almost, that by a percentage, fewer firefighters die in the act or complications from firefighting, than do automobile drivers.
But, some do, some dont. So far, me and Q are the only two here that do.
What does that tell you?
Wait! Dont answer that :D

My gear allows for 2 seconds of protection at a temperature of 2000 degrees F. And that protection is only from death. If you spend two seconds in those flashover conditions you are going to be one hurting unit.

I tend to agree with hes....I don;t know may who do it for the money. I like it msotly because of the thrill. It's so exciting it's ridiculous. And I also have always enjoyed being in some sort of uniformed service or another.

Here are some pics of some recent fires here in my city. They are two different fires.

Hope you enjoy them.

Hey Piege, for some reason I can't see your pics (prolly our server here at work blocking them) but I can tell you from personal experience that flashovers are "exciting"...not sure I would have called it fun, ended up w/ a really good sunburn over about 30% of my body. Lucky that was all I got out of it I s'pose.

I can see em'...It's just Q's blocking program that we had to initiate to keep all the letters safe...You know, a picture is worth a thousand words; and just think if he got a hold of a picture!...Letters everywhere would dissappear!

Cool pictures both of ya'!...Both have my admiration and thanks for a job that is both dangerous and necessary!...Good show! :)

have fun guys!...jim

Hesaias,
Hat's off to you for the courage to take those kinds of risks.
I checked out your homepage to find out where in SC you're from, but "a little town" describes most of the state.
I grew up in Greenville, and now I live in Bluffton. Bluffton is not small by any means, though: We actually have 3 traffic lights now.
