I'm thinking of setting up a 10g. nano and using a cpr bak-pak skimmer I got laying around for filtration and lighting it up with a 70 watt hqi but I think the skimmer might be to long to hang on the 10g. with out toughing the stand which will be my nightstand. So i'm thinking of using a 15g. high instead but do you think a 70 wat hqi will light up a 15g.h enough to keep softies and lps. I really want to set up this nanp so I can get the softies and lps out of my 46g. to make more room for sps.

I think the 70w DE will be fine for your tank and what you want to keep. The PAR on DE bulbs is very high for their wattage so alot more light penetrates deeper.

I also agree that you will be fine with the HQI. Double ended bulbs give alot of bang for the buck.

Ive got a 70w HQI, stuck between the two bulbs in my 2x40w Sattelite fixture. I had it over a 10g and I kept anything I wanted.
Now a 15gtall, and still keeping the same corals.

Thanks everyone I guess I'll go with the 15g. If I decided to set it up...

also could someone link me to some sites that sell 70 watt hqi ballast, bulbs, and sockets. Also I hear that people are using a small reagant pendant from home depot and wiring up a hqi ballast to it, can someone tell me the brand and what its called and do you use the socket that comes with the pendant or do you have to replace it.

That pendants a little to pricy, over at nanoreefs.com I found the thread on how to buod the 70 watt hqi pendant with the regan fixture but after thinking about it I'm decided to make the new nano an sps tank because I really don't have the money to stock my 46g. with sps... I'd rather not spend $300 on a 150 watt hqi pendant for a 15g. so I've decided to go with a 10g. instead so I can use a 70 watt hqi and I will build a small lift to raise a 10g. so my cpr skimmer will fit on it. Do you think the 70 watt hqi will be sufficient for sps in a 10g.? I'm thinking of using a 10k ushio bulb and a 2x13 watt pc actinics.. What do you all think..

Here (http://www.nano-reef.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=16346&highlight=Regent) is the thread @ NR that tells how to convert the Regent fixture to 70w DE MH.

http://www.firstclassaquatics.com/lights.htm if your just looking for the ballast this is a good place to go but if you want the whole setup i would recommend going on ebay and search for a guy called aquabuys

you could just let the back of the tank hang out alittle bit so that the skimmer will hange a little below the stand.

70W DE'r over my 5.5 and it is still not enough for some Acropora...after all, 70W is still 70W!!!!

FWIW, softies and LPS would be fine though n your system!!! Just watch out when the SPS bug bites :)

I have run a 70 over a 10 and I agree with onthefly. MH is not magic. I had to get rid of an alveopora that just could not thrive under the 70.

I upgraded from a 70w ushio to a 250w DE 20kk AB since my acro's were growing, but staying brown even with good flow and water parameters. They're already starting to color up after a couple weeks.

Gator - is the 250 over the 10? Do you have a picture of this?

btw, how can you have a usf logo with the great name of gatorfan?
