Anyone know where I can get cured live rock cheaper than Fish Safari? Usually get it from there but the Marshall Islands is $10/pound. I like the Marshall Islands rock alot, but I have 3 kinds in my tank right now. So I guess as long as it looks good, it really doesn't matter.

Why not throw some dead rock in there and let it grow

$10 per pound is pretty outrageous. It must be pretty fantastic rock for that price. Don't get me wrong, I think Fish Safari is a great little store, and have dropped plenty of bucks there over the years, but they must not sell live rock in large enough quantities to offer a more competitive price. Check with Waterlily. She went to Dr Mac's on the Eastern Shore and got some nice rock up there, if you don't mind driving. You'll get the online price plus no shipping costs!

I am happy with the rock I got from Dr.Mac. I paid $5 per pound for some large rocks. I think he charges $4 per pound for medium sized ones. It is not cured, so you'll have to take care of that yourself. If you do go up there, find out what day he's expecting a shipment and plan on going within a few days. That way you get a lot to choose from. Dr.Mac is very helpful in picking out rocks and suggesting ways to arrange them.

The drive up there is very relaxing. It's a nice day trip.

Thanks again. Dr Mac's price is much more reasonable. What is his contact info, and is this a store or does he just sell odds and ends?

I did put some dead rock in and let it grow BTW. May do some more dead rock, not sure yet.

If Jeff (mylittleocean) doesn't take my rock, I have about 80 lbs. of Dr. Mac's Kaelini rock that's been in my tank for about a year. Lots of different color coralline and macroalgae growth, it's really awesome. I'm selling it all for $200. Just watch this thread (http://archive.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&postid=4587068) and if he doesn't take it, let me know if you're interested.
