Not sure what this is... it has spread over my rock... Is this normal?

The pic is pretty blurry, but it looks like purple coralline algae -- if it's hard and growing well attached to the rock, that's what it is (a good thing). If it's soft, and can be brushed off pretty easily, it's probably cyano bacteria (a bad thing)

Good consistent levels of calcium and alkalinity, moderate flow, medium lighting and decent water quality .... and patience ;)

Well i turned the lights off overnight, and noticed the red stuff on the right had circle has diminished to 50% of what it was last night. The one on the left is the same..

I then reached in there, and touched it the one on the right is definately slimey, (cyano) which overnight was ruduced dramatically. On the other had the other one (on the left) was not slimey at all, and that must be coralline... I will check again once i get home, and post some pics for you all....

If there is a way to increase the circulation to the area where the cyano is growing it will help keep it in check, it grows in areas where you have low or no flow. HTH, Skip

i did... i moved the powerhead and pointed it right at the trouble spot last night to see if it will start to dissappear overnight, and it did... no worries...

I hope it looks better when i get home later on...
