anyone interested in trading for or buying a medium sized favites? it's a nice piece but it's not adapting well to my metal halide lighting for some reason. greg

do you have a picture of them, greg? did you try dropping them down in the tank? I would trade you stuff possibly for them, but i would be putting them under basically the same lighting.

i can take a picture. it's at the bottom on the sandbed, and i've got a couple layers of window screen over it which is resting on top of egg crate below the lights. i'm pretty sure these are hardy corals and everything else is fine so i must assume that the lighting is too intense. i'll take a pic and post it.... greg

that would be cool, where were they under your vho's?

GGGREGGG
03/13/2005, 07:16 PM
the pics are in my gallery, my black sailfin blenny being the reference. i didn't have them under just the vho's, i got it after i set up the metal halides. it's mottled green/purple.

so what is wrong with them? are they changing colors or something?
what kind of corals are you looking for in return? I cannot buy anymore specimens b/c of move here in few months.

they're not filling out like they should be. i'm down with lps/sps/softies, just lookin for something different that does ok with a decent amount of light.

can you take a picture of them with the halides on. what color are they? we should be able to make a trade. i have a decent size piece of anchor i could trade. i have some monti digi and the the flat kind as well. also have some frags of sps. i really think they could do well in you tank. i thought favites like medium to high light. is that right?

GGGREGGG
03/14/2005, 12:46 PM
dude i thought they liked a decent amount of light as well. i don't get it. i hid it under some of my live rock for a few days and it started looking a lot better, so i brought it out and put it under some shade and it just doesn't seem to like the halides. i posted 2 more pics with the halides on in my gallery. it's a mottled green/purple.

i will do the trade, let me know what you want for it. when did you want to trade them?

GGGREGGG
03/14/2005, 04:12 PM
i'm off today so if you wanna do it this evening that's fine. i guess i'd have to see what you have before i can decide what i'd like to trade it for.

burke757
03/14/2005, 04:31 PM
do you want to come over then tonight and bring the coral with you?

GGGREGGG
03/14/2005, 04:36 PM
that's fine, what time do you wanna do it?

burke757

GGGREGGG
03/15/2005, 03:50 PM
randy my hermit crabs stole those polyps you gave me... i have no idea where they are :D oh well...

burke757
03/15/2005, 04:49 PM
hopefully they will turn up- can you frag your toadstool? do you have any pictures of it?

GGGREGGG
03/15/2005, 05:04 PM
i don't have any recent pictures of it. i do have a few seeds from it that i can frag off. there's 3 smaller versions of it right behind the main stalk that i can shave off the liverock.

i did find a frag of my colony polyps while i was looking for those polyps you gave me last night, so i've got some of those as well.

i also have a frag of those star polyps i got from you last year.

i work till 10 but i'll post a pic tomorrow when the halides come on.

everything looked good this afternoon before i left for work, all sps had polyp extension. i ended up gluing the encrusting monti to the side of one of my rocks, it's in a really cool spot.

i'm hesitant to post pics because i'm ashamed of my hair algae :rolleye1:

GGGREGGG

alright, the pics are in my gallery, if you look behind the toadstool there's 3 smaller versions behind it, 2 are easily identifiable. there's also some nice shots of my hair algae in there.... :rolleye1:

you can hardly tell that is hair algae. i like the toadstool, mine is a little different. what would take to get a frag?

how are the frags i gave you doing?

GGGREGGG
03/16/2005, 07:14 PM
i keep the hair algae closely cropped :) i can cut one of the seedlings off with a razor if you want. it'll take longer but i can attach it to something if you want. everything looked good before i left for work today, minus those polyps that are still M.I.A. :D

Greg,
Man do a bunch of water changes and get a Sea Hare!I had HA on ever rock in my tank!Pull it out daily, change at least 15gal twice a week and in a month it will be gone.I do run ozone and wet skim heavly. Oh yea if you can keep your PH above 8.3 to 8.6 that also help a bunch. You can beat it, but it's a job.

what actually fuels the hair algae?? i was under the impression that once it establishes itself it's self-sustaining. i'm getting another sea hare on friday, the first one died a couple days after i put it in the tank. randy told me you were running ozone, i was considering setting up a fuge w/ some chaeto if i can find some. i also have a phosban reactor but i haven't gotten it up and running yet. i'll definitely start doing more water changes.

Greg, I have 20g long. drilled at top- on one end with 1"bulkhead installed that I used for fuge for sale $30? BTW, weekly water changes and fuge got rid of my Hair alage! Hold on the OZ untill you read alot more, IMHO.

you have nitrate, phos, and sil, in your system, thats how it lives, the only way, plus old bulbs

charlie, thanks for the offer on the 20. i've read about ozone before, just never invested.

tommy- trates are at 2.5 ppm. PO4 is undetectable. silicates from where?? let me guess.... my sandbed? old bulbs have been gone for a couple months now. BTW, what does, "chuckys all over" mean? are you referring to the hair algae? or are you a comedian?

So how is the turd?

GGGREGGG
03/23/2005, 08:52 PM
hahaha, nobody i know is getting married, but hopefully at least one of us will be getting lucky :) the turd has been in the same spot in a crevice of my rockwork, i'm thinking about pulling him out of there to make sure he's still alive. i'm pretty wary of those things since the first one i put in there keeled over 2 days after i got it....

GGGREGGG
03/23/2005, 08:56 PM
he must have sensed i was thinking about goosing him, he's coming up over the rock now :)
