Anybody have any ideas which is more structurally sound between a 4"x4" or 2 screwed together 2"x4" boards? I'm trying to decide which my long horizontal braces should be.

I belive the 2-2x4 would either be stronger but at least equal. Regardless the 2x4 you can get a piece thats square or straight. 4x4 might be croocked and harder to straighten?

Neither, two 1 by 4 strips of plywood glued and screwed together will give you more flex resistance and strength than twice the thickness of dimensional lumber. Plus it won't warp. It's scary to see what holds up a 180 gal tank. Agu
