We need to know how many LED bulbs eberyone will need for their moonlight.

They way to figure this out is first decide how long your moonlight tube will be. Then, every 2 1/2 - 3 inches is where 1 LED bulb will be.

For example: 48" tube w/ LED bulb every 3 inches = 16 LED bulbs

What you need to bring:
solder
solder iron
wire
power source
tube
pot/roach clips
caps (anything that can be used to cap off the ends of the tubing)

We also need a final count on bulbs

You can pick them up at Radio Shack Leona.... If you get them at radio shack they will probably call them alligator clips, but we all know them by roach clips!!!!!

I want to make a moonlight too! How many lights are needed for a 6' tank?

What's the tube thing? Just regular tank tubing? What size?

Cat23,
It's a clear tube I believe you would want it the length of the tank but I could be wrong.

The tubing is either clear hard plastic or glass. They can be found at That Fish Place or at Home Depot maybe even Lowes.

The size is as long as you want but no longer then the hood you are placing it in.

Teri - you would need 24 bulbs for a 6' hood

By the way - you do not have to use the tubing. In the instructions that I sent everyone they show the lighting being placed on a thin board which would be placed inside of the hood. Rich used the tubing because it better protects the lighting from the water, salt, etc.

My tanks donot have a hood. I have 4 250W metal halides hanging over one and a long fixture with mh and fluorescents on the other.

Kelly, Would CLear PVC or Plastic Tubing be better?

tinyreefer

it shouldn't matter what you use as long as whatever you are using is clear

The tubing:

Length - we are pretty sure that the tubing sold at HD, Lowes, TFP only comes in 48". If this is the case it isn't hard to cut down the tubing if it is plastic and if you need longer then that then mutiple tubes would be needed. If you are using glass tubing and need it cut - have the store do this where you bought it at unless someone here has a tube cutter.
Diameter - the diameter of the tubes we have are about the size of a quarter. The size of the diameter doesn't really matter as long as it is close to the size of ours or larger.

Remember you also need something to use to cap off the ends. Just about anything can be used for this. We used the caps off of old bottles of supplements we had laying around. HD & Lowes also sell small PVC caps in their plumbing department.

I'm not sure what department the tubing might be in at HD or Lowes.
