help i left the lites on overnite(i know got a timer now) on my 24g nano.next day i had tons of brown algae,which has since toned down.some of my rock is white on top what is it and should i do anything

did you just set this tank up? it may just be reaching that stage in the cycle. The white portion of rock may be die off which is also normal in uncured live rock. Also you should post your tank params it would really help in diagnosing the problem. :)

The white stuff is probably coraline die off. Pretty normal occcurence. It'll regrow and spread over time.

heres the lowdown on my setup.:24g jbj nanocube.set up 1/30,3 damsels (recommended to kick start cycle),22lbs lr,ls.sg-1.022,ammon-0.0,ph-8.0,nitrite-0.0,nitrate-0.0

I agree, coraline dies off white and will regrow in time. Nothing to worry about, very common for new rock.

ARGH! Who recommended that? Damsels are NOT needed to cycle the tank, nor will it speed up the cycle. The tank will cycle on it's own, and the colonizing bacteria will catch up to the tank's demands on it's own.

Be kind to the fish and return them to wherever you bought them. You''ll thank yourself in the longrun because damsels are mean little $&*@! and are a royal PITA to remove from the tank once you're ready to add the other tank inhabitants.

I wholeheartedly agree is sug mag. If those fish die in the cycle they will only make things worse.
Pull them out now before later.

ok you convinced me.ill return those dam damsels.is there an easy way to catch them?
