I was wondering if anyone has every made something like Larry's behind the tank refugum? I was thinking of building one using it as a small sump behing a 5.5 gallon tank. I would use a power head to pump water into it and let gravity take the water back into the tank. Or would it be better to put the powerhead in the sump and have the water pulled into the sump? Also, if anyone has some type of design or anything I could follow it would greatly help with my construction. Thanks for everyone's help. :)
I tried emailing Larry M directly, but no one ever responded.

Hi Jester,

At the end of this post I put the links to Larry's refugiums in case you have not seen them yet.

I would suggest that you pump the water in to the refugium and use gravity to flow back to the tank. If you use the pump inside the refugium the pump would possibly kill off some of the critters that you are trying to create.

If you tried the last couple days to e-mail Larry he hasn't responded because he has been dealing with a disaterous tank crack. See the salwater posts.....

Give him a little while and I am sure he'll be in contact w/ you!

I did a behind the tank refugium. See the equipment section of my webpage, and it is very simple. Water from the sump tees off. One into the tank, and one into the refugium. Ball valves are used to adjust the flow.
