Did you ever get anywhere with the impellor mods?

Not yet,
I kept hearing that it couldn't be done so I decided to wait until I got some new powerheads before I started making modifications just in case I screw em up I don't want to be without a powerhead.
I have some rios I'll modify I'm waiting to get some maxijets but they will be shipped with someother stuff that is on back order until next week suposedly.

I was thinking about putting the impellor on a lathe and making a grove/slice/cut in the blades.

You got any way to balance them? I heard that impellor balancing is tricky, but NOT impossible.
I work on 5000gpm 2 stage pumps w\brass ipellors that have to be balanced and I would guess the same things apply, just smaller.
Have you thought about holes? I would think that you would be less likely to mess up the balance that way
just my guess though, I think I may start with my spare penguin!!!

yes I considered holes.
I have a little leather punch that may work.
I think it would work better than a drill at least for keeping it in balance
