cloudy water

Please help! Continued problems starting our reef 75 gal aquarium b/o cloudy water. Prior possibility suggested was a precipitate formed due to hard water when we added salt..We purchased a RO/DI unit (also had nitrates and copper in our well water which the unit took care of), and just recently refilled our tank. Water was clear, when then added salt (Tropic Marine). Water remained clear until the specific gravity reached approx 1.020 then clouded up. We then took off about 20 gals, refilled with fresh water, but the water remained cloudy..Now what?? Should we try a different salt? How about a water clarifying solution? Can our water be tested for a precipitate?
Is some cloudiness normal?
