When my windows are open my ph stays close to 8.1. When its hot and the windows are shut it drops as low as 7.5. How can I control this when my windows are shut?

Is there anything that could be leaking CO2 in my apt. (besides my wife talking to much) that could be causing this?

This is normal, check the chemistry forums. One of the recommendations is to drip kalk, and increase oxigenation (protein skimming, etc.) among others.

Silly question, when it's hot (during the day) and the windows are shut, are the lights on? You have chaeto in your fuge, and when the lights are off the tank drops in ph. When your lights are on your ph raises. When I put my lights on 24/7 over my fuge, the ph swing decreased quite a bit!

I've been leaving my windows open for the last few months, night & day. If we have a hot day I shut them and turn on the ac. This is when I'm having the fluctuation. I have <.15 of a change in ph associated with the lights.

You can stick plants in the house as they consume massive amounts of C02 and refrain from lighting candles, this seems to help me.And open the windows every now and then like your doing. With the cold front coming tonight I will be opening the windows fror sure.

Driping Kalk at night or early morning will raise the ph overall and help keep the ph level as well.
