ok i posted that i would like to make a skimmer, but now im starting to like the sump idea.

You see, around christmas, i will be upgrading to a 50 gallon
36L X 18W X 19H and will have it pre drilled, but i am a little confused, Can you put the fuge and Wet/dry filter in the sump, i really dont no alot about wt/dry filters and sumps so can some one fill me in?

I would advise against the wet/dry. The bio balls tend to hold nitrates (aka nitrate factory).
Yes you can have a sump/refug. In a refug you want to try to keep the water flow slow.

ok, then if you dont have a wet/dry filter in the sump, what kind of filtration is used? (i feel so confused and stupid)

I wouldn't mind trying to fix the leaks in my skimmer. The fish food that we made at Amber's didn't seem too difficult nor time consuming. If we decided to make the Ca Reactor I wouldn't have any use for it at the moment. However, who knows in the future it'd be nice to have one just in case. I say let's do it all!

now that would be fun, just get everything done at once. lol

The live rock gives you the biological filtration (which is what bioballs are designed to do, only live rock is better). You don't need mechanical filtration, but can put in some filter floss if you want. It's not difficult to design a way for the water to flow through floss. It is nice to have an area for chemical filtration (Phosphate reducer resins, carbon, etc). I recently made a sump/refugium out of a 20 gallon glass aquarium using a design on this site. I'm going to try to get some pictures up if I can figure it out.

Don't feel silly for asking questions. That's how we learn. You probably know way more about this hobby than most other kids your age, so you're ahead of the game already.

lol. thanks. What size tank does the 20 gallon sump/fuge go on?

ok now im starting to think about making a sump for my 50 gallon tank im upgrading to around christmas (but that can wait for another meeting, lol)
