See this thread (http://archive.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=519696) in Randy's forum for the details, but we have some problems with the town water supply, who uses it? RODI? Thanks.

Edit: See this article (http://reefkeeping.com/issues/2003-11/rhf/feature/index.htm) for info on chloramines. In addition to the warning, we have elevated chloramine levels in our water, according to the testing done at the aquaculture center.

I don't use the tap water for my reef tank, but I use it for my planted tank and the water has ridiculous amounts of phosphate.

Acetic acid is what is in vinegar (5%), haloacetic acid (HAA) is the same thing but a halogen molecule added to the structure (like chlorine), and this usually happens as a by-product of adding chlorine to the water. That thing about long term consumption of HAA's long term causing cancern was in the news back in the fall.

HAA's (http://www.epa.gov/enviro/html/icr/gloss_dbp.html)

more HAA's (http://www.ec.gc.ca/science/sandemar01/article4_e.html)

But HAA's are NOT chloramines for sure. Therefore I don't know if the same mechanisms for removal of chloramines would apply to HAA's. My guess is chemical removal (addition of tap water conditioner will probably not work the same), using RO/DI "should work".

Thats all I really know about it.

Yeah, I was not clear in what I was saying. I was asking what HAA's are, and stating that we have high chloramines, and asking who uses the town water. Three seperate issues (sort of). Thanks for the info!
