Charcoal

I am in need of some charcoal so I was thinking of getting a large quantity and doing like I offered with the DE... offer to sell some to members and the extra funds will go to the SWAM funds....

I am thinking of getting it thru Craig (the water treatment guy) he offered me a good price, about $50/28lb (much better $$than Kents on line) I had tested it at work for Phos... the results are at 0.033 ppm

I have asked Craig for the grainsizes of the charcoal he can get... A sample he gave me was smaller than the pellets that Kent sells.. Not sure if ya all have a preference for size ???

What is the grain size for the Kent carbon? I have always used Marineland brand.

I had 12 x 40 mesh that he 1st brought me, he can get an 8 x30 mesh, which is larger in size and also granular. He is still trying to get the pellet stuff. Shall I tell him to not bother with the pellet size , I might like to try the 8X30 mesh

The Kent I have used before comes in pellets, about like rabbit food or wood stove pellets.....

Supposedly the pellets reduce the 'clogging' factor of the media but Craig mentioned that the smaller stuff is more efficent at removal of organics
