Do any of you guys use Publix "Purified Water." It's RO water, and I wanted to start using it, but wanted to see what you guys thought first. Any need to dechlorinize it?

Thanks,

Rene

You wont need dechlorinator but you will find the TDS to be a little high. And getting water from publix every week to be a big hassle. You can buy this unit if you dont want to install one under the sink and break even in no time. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=20756&item=4350476035&rd=1

Or spend the 20.00 extra bucks and install this one and have great drinking water as well along with a holding tank. This is what I have and love it.It was recomended to me by Sonic and he has had good luck with it as well. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=46310&item=4346047786&tc=photo

Wow, is publix water really RO? Seems like it would be filtered, but the TDS would need to be below at least 50 to call it RO. Is this the case?

The purified bottle from Publix is RO and also run through UV.The water that you bring your jugs to fill is RO but Sonic told me he tested it and TDS was high.

I use an ro-di for my tank. For drinking water I go to Albertsons and fill my 5g jug. It tests at 19ppm. Thats better then most fish stores ro-di water. The FDA regulates how often they change their filters. You can see the date stamped on a sticker when they change the filters.

cool, 19ppm is a lot better than I would expect.

You don't need a RO system. A DI system works fine. As long as you start off with decent tap water.

Hey Matt...do you mean the other way around? I think you mean that an RO system by itself works fine, but you don't need a DI unit. If you were running a straight DI system you would BLOW through cartridges.

Guys what is TDS?

TDS- Total dissolved solids.

Chris,
No I use only a DI system for all my tanks. If I remember right my tds is about 80. Everybody tells me that is no good, so I did a water test. All of it was Ca, Mg etc. Minimal Nitrates and no Cu. So why would I want to remove it from my make up water to put it back with supplements. I have not had to add Ca in most of my tanks ever. Granted I am not growing a tank of sps. I use a set of cartridges about every 9 monthes with a Kold-steril unit. Water on demand, no holding tank.

No, sorry Matt, I don't. Hippos have been known to eat softies and zoos.
