It kind of defeats the purpose of having a prize. But why not select several and run them with a random display script so when you join it shows a different picture.

Not to toot my own horn.........really.
But if anyone has some nice tank shots, I can take clips from a variety of pictures to come up with one like the one I submitted and it would be from members tanks! Any greak fish pictures, awsome corals, etc...

Its just an idea if we want it to be more personal.

Thanks for the idea, Bishop, but a script like that is just another thing to maintain. The one that Reefs.org uses for their banners does not load a graphic for me about half the time.

Hmmmm...as I look at this logo it's not quite as sharp as it was when I created it. I did the logo using CorelDRAW 8, creating vector images. Would anyone know how to convert a vector graphic to a .jpg or .gif without losing any of the definition (or is that inevitable)?

Thanks! Karen

GIF will be best to keep sharp lines, but requires a larger pallette to retain high color depth. Since youre doing vector graphics, GIF should work though. Good quality JPEGs for web use are proably best produced with various photoshop plugins such as Ulead Smartsaver or the built in "save for web" option from later versions.

I have been working on a logo with Adobe Illustrator and will soon have a pdf file to send. Will that suffice, cause as of now i don;t even know how to change it. This info may be posted but do i just send the image to larry's email?

Yeah, sorry, I should have posted that with each new thread. You can email the image to me, or post it here if you like. I think I can get a pdf file converted, but if you can get it to a jpg or gif file that would be great.

Thanks seafOOd, I converted to jpg and gif. I will look into using a program other than CorelPAINT and see if that helps with the sharpness and definition. I haven't really had this problem before, have done things for the web several times. Who knows...

Thanks, Karen

It's the compression associated with the graphics. For production you should always use a tiff or similar uncompressed format. If compression is a must use a high res compression like png.

Thanks Bishop,
As soon as I have your post translated, I'll do it! Just kidding, I understood you. (Use to be worse than Greek for me. I learn things slow these days.) I'll try a few things and play with the compression a bit.

Thanks! Karen

Dr_Zilla,

There's an option under "File" in Adobe Illustrator called "Export" this will allow you to save it to whatever you want. hth.

Just went through the entries so far, and two are too large for use as they are: the one sent in by Lynn (53kb) and the one sent in by Fishdaddy (106kb). If you guys want to get those file sizes smaller they would then be eligible. The current logo is 30 kb, anything smaller than that is fine. A lot of them so far are under 15kb, that is great.

A script would not be that hard to mantain if it was written right. As long as there was not to many images you could preload them when the page loads.

FWIW, our web-host keeps erasing the script...it's not the script's fault. It works fine.

Cheers

Hi everybody,
I have been busy and haven't been able to visit the board. How much longer until you pick?
I'd like to give it a shot. I do this stuff for a living.

Hokay...for insurance:

there's this wild-reef shot
http://www.geocities.com/art_harvest/rcstream.jpg

and then there's this conceptual non-entry (just too big a file): a close up of a Symphyllia brain coral with selectively expanding polyps.
Sorry, didn't have time for finer details and shading.
