I posted this in the chemistry forum, but thought I would go to the source. Your. Perhaps even topical with your new article...... Limewater....Limestone. I found it very informative. Your article said that is was not water soluable, so it could not hurt... right?

I have some nice Texas Holey Rock that I would like to use un my reef system. I have plenty of LR and BR so I do not need it for bacteria. I like the looks of it and it will serve my BB starboard purposes very well.

My question is LIMESTONE good or bad in a reef tank? I have read that it helps boost PH and also read about it being a naturam calcium buffer in real reef environments.

What do you think?

Nice arcticle you wrote. I made a comment on Reef Frontiers about how I had bought a case of Mrs. Wages vs a small container of a marine grade kalkwasser for the same price. Everyone chewed me a new one for using something that was not pure enough to use in a reef tank. I have heard of so many people using commercial lime I figured that a food grade lime that was good enough for me to consume must be good enough for my tank. They were concerned with the heavy metals and impurities that the aquarium suppliers of kalkwasser had removed from thier lime

Thanks, bbrnhart. The food grade lime ought to be fine. :)
