Hoo-rah. My four feet of titanium tubing just arrived. Now I will begin construction of my chiller!!!!!!!!!! I got it for $20.00 from ebay. I priced it at a local specialty metals shop in S.Chas. at $100.00 per foot.

I am going to use a dorm fridge. Inside the fridge is a bucket full of antifreeze. A pump circulates the antifreeze through a copper coil in the freezer compartment. A titanium tube is immersed in the antifreeze and seawater from the sump is circulated through it before being returned to the aquarium. At some point a thermostat will control the circulation through the antifreeze. This will involve a separate pump which returns the cooled seawater to the sump.
Simple, elegant, cheap, effective. My montra for life and reef keeping. Any questions? I will post a thread chronicling my progress. Watch for it.

Well, I began shopping for a dorm fridge today. Target has on fro $65 but it is only 1.8 cubic feet. I could use it but I need a very specific size and shape container for the antifreeze. Honestly I would like to use this fridge but I would have to make my own resivoir. Possibly out of acylic (Ron knows I LOVE to work with acrylic!) expensive though. Maybe a plywood/epoxy job. Hmmmm, maybe just a different fridge. I don't know. Anyone have any suggestions for resivoir construction?

No but maybe you could pick up the fridge used from the ad bulletin and get the size you need. Or just run it through the cold water dispenser on your kitchen fridge I'm sure your wife and kids won't mind. LOL

Actually I had thought of running it through the freezer in the kitchen.
