on friday I purchased a torch coral. I have a 20 long with a 150 hqi metal halide. since I do not have the suspension hardware, Im using the legs that came with it. (aqualight pro) about 4-5 inches above the water.
I placed it on the sand, not directly under the mh but a few inches to the side. The following day one of the heads was retracted and showing some/most of the skeleton. then on sunday there were two heads retracted, showing most/some of the skeleton. the other two heads are showing slight skeleton, but not retracted as much. I have moved the torch to a more shaded part of the tank.
Two of the heads have some stringy stuff coming out. (zoox?)
Is this ok, is it just getting use to the new tank?

Always make it a habit to acclimate new corals in indirect lighting on the SB of tank. The stringy stuff is indeed zoox/waste/mucous and corals will regulate themselves by expelling it,especially upon introduction.

now that it is in a more shaded area, will it eventually be ok?

some of it most likely will live on.
