View Full Version : Circular flow?

Recently been fiddling with the flow in my tank. I have had the three power heads pointed at the center of the tank to create some turbulent flow, which I had read was the thing to do. But I'm now wondering if creating a circular flow by pointing all the powerheads in the same direction, from the same locations they are at now, one on each end and one in the back, might create better flow. Most of the brown algea has morphed into a burgandy color. The rocks are fairly clean, may be a product of the adjustment of flow over them. The sand however is still a mat of color. A new color, yes but, still a color. I wonder if it may be red slime or just a different cyano or diatom.

Any thoughts??

My guess is cyano. Does it have bubbles on it?

Nope, not any more. the brown stuff did have bubbles when it was at it's worst but, that seems to have subsided. this is a mat of red (burgandy really) and is mostly on the sand. it's almost gone when the lights first come on. they are only on about six hours a day from about 3 pm to 9pm, then by the end of the lights on period the red is back. I have used chemi-clean in the past with no help.
