Give me some suggestions- I am thinking of setting up a new tank. I want to go with something that is not over 36 inches long. I am looking at the 65 gallon from All-Glass. It is 36 x 18 x 24. This is the biggest tank I can buy that is 36 inches long. Any suggestions??? If you think this is a bad idea, let me know and why. I have to get rid of this "corner tank". LMK.

Rick,
What's wrong with the corner?

Have you loked at the 40 breeders?

My 65g is 40" long but I don't know the maker.
Is the AGA 65g only 36" long.

Space is my major problem. I can only fit a sump under the tank that is 20 inches long; which is a 10 gallon aquarium. Which means that water has to added on a daily basis to keep up with evaporation. This makes it really hard to go away for the weekend.

Another problem I am having is hard to explain. I can't get lights to hit some corals all the way around. So I am getting some bleaching on the sides of some of the corals. The side that gets the strong light is thriving but the other side is basically dead. I don't like this.

Plus there are some things that I wish I could have done differently when setting up this aquarium.

The only problem that I see so far with the 65 galon aquarium is that on the top it has a brace in the middle. This is where the metal halide would be. What do I do about that? Can I cut that brace out? Any suggestions???

Thanks

I would also suggest you look at a forty breeder. They are 18 inches in stead of 12 inches wide. nice size for a reef. The 65 is a really odd size for a reef. Removing the brace is not a good idea. Aquascaping will also be very hard in a tank with those dimensions.

I think the tank is 18 inches wide. I am pretty sure it is 36x18x24.

I agree with Dave that removing the center brace is a bad Idea.
If you go with that tank you should use 2 MHs.

Have you thought about a custom tank....36X36X24 ?????

Custom Tank:
Wouldn't that be nice! It would cost an arm and a leg though.

Do you know of anyone who makes them? Prices???

i would go with the 40 breeder also the 24" deep sucks when your shoulder is in the water. the only bad thing is price on the 40. i got one a couiple weeks ago from steven and it cost more than a 55.

dont cut the brace rick. i think the 65 is a great size. i went to a real nice LFS in naples, FL. they had 6 or 7 displays, all in the 65 gallon size. they were all awesome.

have you considered a cube? oceanic has a few (if im not mistaken). i would think about the statements about the 40 breeder. it is a nice size tank also (same footprint as 65) but i still think id go with the extra height. ill take that 8 inches and get my arms a little wet. :D
