View Full Version : The 500 gallon tank move Summary

Teego

Well the tank move was eariler today.

And we didn't break it.

Some 2X4s lost their lives, we injured a finger on someone. nobody fell into the hot tub that we passed a 1200 pound tank over, and 16 people to move a tank would not be too few.

Somone took pics, they are to come..........

What a day! Thanks again for all the help. I finally managed to get that forklift back up the hill after 10 tries. I had to back it up as the wheels kept spinning helf way up going forward.

I had a dream about that tank last nite.... bad dream.

Tank was fully stocked and matured. The fella (forget his name) was having a big house party and some fool poured a 5th of liqour in the tank. :eek1: :eek1: :eek1:

Then... i woke up.

The guy that took the pics sent me an email thanking me for inviting him along. Said he loved meeting everybody.... even enjoyed the actual tank move. I think its the first time he moved a tank and got to see nekkid chickies at the same time!!! :)

He is a service manager at a car dealership. (i think).... he will probably send the pics tonight and I will post them for him... hopefully i wont have to edit out any content on the TV screen in the background. :) :)

I had a good time too... beat the heck outta cleaning up the house w/ the wife for the inlaws to come into town.

You should schedule these tank moves on every big chore day!

Kip, Can you get some pics of my tank that your buddy took?

11/23/2004, 08:52 AM
Pic's came out pretty good ......Like i said, wish i had the chance to take more pictures during the actual move, but it was kinda hard when you're holdin' 2x4's.....I really didn't think that forklift was going back up the hill on its own power.....EXCELLENT job Pete, you're the man! As far as the grade, pictures dont do any justice. Sorry it took a few days to get the pictures. And, as far as 'the guy' that took the pictures, he isn't a serv. mgr. Wishful thinkin' for me. I'm much lower on the pole. Oh well, life goes on. Had a awesome time. Let me know next time and i can be a dedicated 'photo-man'........Not bad for a rookie. See you on the 4th...;)

Kip- I can host them on the reefobsession.com site. I also have an FTP site available for uploading pics and then using that to link to them in threads.

Let me know and I can get you an ID on the FTP site to use as you like.

Kip

Here is a link... if someone wants to image tag them all into this thread... knock yourself out. For now... just click the link below.

Link to Pete's Tank Pics (http://www.billsext.com/pz525.htm)

basically i had to brighten them up a bit

i have learned with my 20k HQIs.. .the best way to take pics is with them off... and only some white VHO... halides... especially 20k... are too hard to take pics under without the camera turning everything dark and blue (and overexposing blue corals at that)

Kip
11/23/2004, 10:28 AM
hey pete... what's the name of that new coral you got almost a month or so ago.. it is light green.. .kinda smooth... over to the left in the general area of that multi-colored seriatopra hystrix.

Is it an A. simplex?

hey JR... hope ya didnt take the comments about the photos the wrong way..... i had the same "blue" problem when i took some at Mr. Z's during the summer... and i have the same problem with my tank... i think the pics are great... w/o you.. we woulda had no pics at all!

reefcrazed
11/23/2004, 10:34 AM
Yes it is a simplex...if th you are talking about the one right below the blue tort. I thought it more of a bluish color than green. I actually use that coral to gauge my calcium and Alk levels. If it start to lighten up and green a bit, I know my alk or calcium has fallen. I was just thinking last night I need to do some tests and add some buffer or turbo calcium, but was too tired and lazy. I guess I will do that tonight. Kip you are good at coral ID!

Sorry I couldn't make it Pete. Wife went up to Greensboro to see off another NC deserter... I was hanging with the kids.

Beer, hard labor and porn - can't believe I missed it.

Kip
11/23/2004, 10:40 AM
yeah.. i am still waiting for an electronic Ca and dkh meter to come out

i test my new tank for the first time since i moved the corals back in... Ca 450 ... woohoo!..... dkh at 7... yikes!... no wonder everything looked so sketchy... i gotta getta CO2tank soon!.. The brand new C-reactor has been gathering dust for a few months now

i am not good at ID-ing corals... i am just a good guesser.

Like i said before... its one thing to know what a coral is... its another to be able to keep it. Seems you've the latter down perfectly.

All of my corals are a. chloroxydness or a. cocoatuousa :(

That's a hell of a tank you guys put in. If he's "much lower on the totem pole" I need to find a new job!!!!

What time and where is the Dec. 4th meeting? I've got a Charlotte Aquarists Society meeting that day too and a double dose of aquaristics would be great.

Best,
Phil

hey pete... a little OT .... but i saw you had a pincushion urchin... that thing give ya any headache?.... does it knock stuff over?

reefcrazed
11/24/2004, 10:14 PM
Once in a while it'll knock something over. Are you referring to the blue tuxedo urchin? That one does not ever knock anything. I have two Atlantic black long spine urchins trhat occassionally knock something over. Most of my corals are pretty well fastened, but not all.

Kip
11/24/2004, 10:43 PM
yeah.. tuxedo (i think they are related to the pincushions... at any rate... ) .... i was thinking of putting an urchin in my 225g. I have always heard the knock stuff around... that or they just get too big.... so, i thought i'd ask someone with experience.

reefcrazed
11/25/2004, 09:26 AM
I do not believe they get too big, probably only like 2 1/2 inches in diameter. He is a good guy.
