View Full Version : Frogspawn Bubble

My Frogspawn has been doing well for 4 months until I noticed (2 months ago) that when it closed at night, there was a bubble about 2 in dia. where the mouth should be. I thought it would go away, but now it looks like 6 of the 8 branches have it. What is it, and what should I do? My water parameters are all fine and I do a 10gal. water change every 2 weeks.

Please Advice...

I think some time ago, there were some other posts about a frogspawn bubble and the consensus was that the head was about to split--and the bubble was a precursor of the event.

I would agree ... it doesn't seem to happen on my variety - but I've seen it on others frogspawns and that's what they had said had happened when they saw it before.

However ... report back what happens on yours, I just wouldn't freak about it.

Mine do it all the time,the polyp will split soon after,but sometimes it has remained inflated for months before dividing,often into 3 mouths before splitting.http://reefcentral.com/gallery/data/558/37881bubble__Custom_.jpg

I have a hammer that's got bubbles on two out of three branches. This is good to know. I was wondering what it was doing. Bubbles have been there a couple weeks now.

My frogspawn is doing the same thing. When I was at my LFS the other day, I was asking about it and they showed me their's that was in their large display. They stated the same that it will bubble before it splits into a new head. So I guess it's a good thing.

The strange thing is that I also have little heads growing out from the base of the polyp on one of the old heads. There are like three of these little ones on one of the heads. This is my first hammer, so I'm new to all the growth signs. I will try to get a photo.
