Hey all,

As I have been doing some updates on our web site the Media Specialist (my wife), and I thought we should upgrade our club logo.

Anyone with any suggestions, or pics they'd like to submit please email them to us, or post them here. tenner@mmcoralfarms.com

Thanks for all your help.

Maybe a composite picture with a clown fish and anemone, something very reef. I have a couple of clown pics that could be donated to the cause.

Something fun like a school of fish in the bright blue, green, Purple, etc... like the clown fish T-shirts. Not real species colors, but it would make for a fun logo. Something like regal tangs in the color of the rainbow if you follow me on the idea.

Another one I kind of like would be the infinity/fish symbol like R. Shimek uses, but with BARE on it.

DSB,

Thanks for the imput. I also have some anemone and clown pics I will post later this week.

I also have some "Fun" type of gif's and jpg's to share.

Anyone else have any suggestions? We could always leave the logo as is. Just thought we could spice things up a bit.

Thanks
Matthew

I can supply some image editing time. I'm not that great, but I have the tools. I was thinking a clownfish/anemone combo would be great also, but I have no pics to work with.

I have pics. Any on my website are up for grabs. I really don't have a problem sharing. I actually have loaned out pictures to other sites. I believe that a picture of my flame angel is on one of the board members Tai reef site. I can't read the site, but I got a kick out of him wanting to use one of my pictures. Feel free to poke around my site. There are a few indexes of pictures burried in it.

DSB,

hmmm, I went to your page, but got nothing but
"Welcome to our Page".

Did I miss something?

I think the one we want is named "fabio". We could use that as our logo, and almost wouldn't have to modify it. ;)

Only kidding, there is some neat stuff in there, I photoshopped together a site layout idea a couple days ago just for fun. I'll run it by you guys later if you are interested. I ended up taking a sick day off work today and slept instead, so I am behind schedule there, this will have to wait a few days for me.

Hey Matt,

Yeah, you are missing something. Below the welcome should be two images and text wich link to either our reef tank or some old picture indexes. Like I said there is a little bit of digging involved. I haven't done an overhaul on the site for some time, but it is on my to-do list. I have actually added a new index for pictures of the current setup and given a quick update to the 180g page.

New Index (http://home.earthlink.net/~dbrummett/180g_page/180g_news/)

DSB,

Figured out why I couldn't see you web site at first. I use Netscape for internet browsing. Netscape won't show your site. IE on the other hand works fine. Just thought you should no. I'm old school with Netscape browsers.

Thanks

Hahahahahahaha....

One word...

Opera

:D ;) :) So now we know we can all test a webpage for all browsers.

anathema,

Gotta love the computer world. I know our bareonline site displays differently depending on which browser you use. By the way there is a new browser on the market these days, not sure you guys have heard of it. The folks at "Real Player" have a new real player with a built in browser. The product is called "Real One" It's free for now as they test it. You can download it from thier site.

Lets see your test page. I updated our site with a try at a new logo. It still needs work though. Please give me your feedback.

This is my last month of web duties for the club. Just trying to spice it up more with better graphics.

You have got to be kidding me. Netscape won't load up standard HTML. Seriously that is messed up! My site is nothing more than simple HTML (the only stuff I know). That is like 5yr old or more technology. Just another reason I have to avoid Netscape. Nice update to the BARE page.

I have been sick, and so I have been really behind on everything.

PS...

If NS won't load up your "standard" HTML it usually means you did something wrong. :D ;) Just messing with you.

Seriously though, I love Opera, although i haven't had time to D/L the new version. It seriously is faster than anything else, especially NS. Makes a big difference on a dial up.

Hhhmmm, I've not heard of Opera. Can you point me in the right direction to check out their product.

Thanks

http://www.opera.com/

I am actually going to d/l 6.0 tonight. It has a lot of features that make navigation super fast and easy, it also has an integrated mail system, which is why I hear a lot of NS users say they like NS.

Worth the DL anyway.

Here is the test page in a very rough form.

http://www.uninked.com/bare/

There is a lot I could still do to it, and the navigation button (yeah, one, I was lazy) looks lame IMO, but it shows you where the nav bar would be.

I haven't looked at it in Mozilla/NS6 yet (that's on my machine at work), but it looks good in IE5.5, Opera 5.12, and passable but not great in NS 4.75. Let me know if you find any problems, I am sure there are some since I kind of rushed through it tonight. I haven't even run this version through a validator yet. Anyway, let me know.

Also, I am still hoping to get that clown pic if you get a chance, I have an idea I want to play with.

Gusty

yeah, looking it over, there is a lot of text formatting I need to do, margin adjusting etc, but I can clean it up from here later if you guys like the layout.

Gusty,

Nice job! I will have to get you and Jake hooked up together. Jake had volunteered to take care of the web site several months ago. Perhaps you guys and collaborate on the site.

I really like the format.

What font are you using for the text.

Appears to display ok in Netscape.

Thanks
Matthew

I am using arial for the text, everyone seems to have it and it looks decent in smaller sizes. It otherwise is set to default to a sans serif font you do have.

I'll be glad to help out, but I don't know if I have time for the full time commitment to updating etc. Sorry, but I am pretty busy as it is.

anathema,

That will be perfect so you and Jake can work together.

Thanks

Looks pretty darn nice to me. I am gonna have to bug you at some point about my page and see if you can give me some pointers on the graphics Gusty.

I have the tools to do some cool graphics, but have not had time to play with them. Photo, illustrator, and pagemaker.

Glad you like it.

The best thing I can say is buy a book or two. I can loan you a neat Photoshop book if you like, but I use it occasionally as a reference so I would need it back.

One program I would recommend that I know almost nothing about is Fireworks. My boss has it and uses it to make photo albums of his motorcycle club events. It has a feature that allows him to point to a folder of images and create a photo album complete with thumbnails. I haven't tried it, but it sounds like it would save a lot of time on reef sites, since that's pretty much what they are.

Also, photoshop is an awesome tool, but the learning curve is steep. Macromedia's products usually are a bit easier to learn, and tend to tie in with web work very well. If you have PS6, you will see more of this, but Macromedia has been doing it from the beginning.

DSB,

I'm also a big Photoshop hack. The best info I've found on Photoshop usage is in the WOW books. The latest being "The Photoshop 6 WOW! Book". They provide a CD with the book that has many styles predefined. One of the big problems with photoshop is you almost have too much control over the pictures, so coming up with cool effects can be time consuming.

For web page items, there's a great product known as NetObjects MX. The company has gone out of business but someone in Florida has purchased the remains and is bringing it back to market. All the web stuff I do is without coding one word of HTML. I don't have time to learn it. I also have a site I built for my company www.trackcomputers.com

The BARE site has been in disarray ever since Rich took it over. I had taken it back several months ago, but am so busy with kids and work I find almost no time to work on it.

I am looking forward to having some take over the BARE site and put some effort into it.

BTW, have you all noticed the MARS site has been down for almost a month now. They are having problems with their server.

Well, thanks for the input guys. Web without coding, sounds too good to be true. There are some cool things to be done with html, but time is the main problem.

Okay, you caught me I don't have books on any of my adobe software. It was cheeper that way:D .

Matt;
Kids and stuff, have you guys had the new baby yet? Hope all is well with the family.

DSB,

"Kids and Stuff". The kid's' are awesome. Yes, we had a little girl, Sarah. I've got my two year old pointing out snails, shrimp, fish and corals when we look at the tank. Really fun to see him learn.

I know the web site without coding sounds great. It really is awesome.

Let me know if you ever want a demo.

Thanks

Did you ever get a change to dig up that anemone/clown pic?

RustySnail

If you can wait until next meeting, I can get a picture of my clown/anemone. (Juvenile Maroon and Med. Bubble Tip). The bubble tip is from matthew's parent anemone. It is in a nice place to get a good close-up in my tank, so I will try to do get 'publishable' pictures of it.
