I purchased a piece of poloyp rock a few days ago. When I picked it up a worm fell off (it was still alive). It was about one inch long, red in color, and very thin (thinner than 1/8 inch), slightly thicker than a hair.

Any idea what this is? Good or bad?

sounds like a bristle worm.most will here will tell you that they're good and beneficial but I dont keep them in my tank- when spotted they are promptly sacrificed to the porcelain god

well it could be a bristle worm, but you just described about 90% of what most of the worms we find in our tanks would look like.

take a pic of it and post it the Dr. Ron section of the message board. if you provide a clear pic dr. ron can id it for you.

The majority of worms you are likely to come across are harmless. Some are actually very benificial, like the bristle worms that budhaboy flushes :eek1:
